The rise and fall of Tiberius the second Roman Emperor
The first 20% of the e-book Tiberius discussed how Octavius became the first Roman Emperor. Octavius was wildly enough politically to manipulate the Roman Senate to give him significant power but never allowed himself to be called Emperor. Next, the e-book describes the individuals that Octavian was grooming to become his successor. Tiberius was quite successful as a Roman general. Nevertheless, he understood that Octavian did not want to make him his successor. In 6 BCE Tiberius decided to retire from public service and intended to live out his life on the island of Rhodes. After all of Octavian’s potential successors had died, Tiberius was chosen to lead Rome. The rest of the e-book describes Tiberius successes and failures. At the beginning of Tiberius’s reign, he had the respect of the people. By the end of his reign, he allowed Sejanus to rule Rome essentially badly. The e-book also explains why the people were happy with Tiberius’s death. The rise and fall
