Not great audio
The music and footage is as good as it gets, obviously. It’s just too bad that not the complete sets aren’t available for us yet. I had the box set of cds in the early 2000’s that came with a bonus dvd from the Austin City concert after In Step came out. It was awesome and had more songs- including a killer version of Couldn’t Stand the Weather. We need more Stevie Ray Vaughan live footage!Obviously any fan of the genius from Texas needs this dvd.

Gotta have this. Period
As I write this I am still watching this DVD (seen it many times over the years on TV).I hope this helps you set up the sound. It is good enough; I wouldn't say don't buy it 'cause the sound is too poor though I agree the sound could be better if they would have tried. [for better see update bellow]Here is my first experience:The first concert listened to it in STERIO mode ( which shows up on my rig's display as 2.0). My monster sub is still working at this setting so I would call it 2.1Then for the second concert, which sounded really muffled on the STERIO 2.0 setting I changed over to surround and it sounds much better. His vocals are way more forward than in the first concert and they have turned his guitar down some, less forward. more base as well. His base player is almost non existent, sound wise, in the first concert. Well that is what I am experiencing as I write this.Buy it ! Unless you don't want a piece of heaven.UPDATE:Once I had a nights sleep and thought about it . . . well check this out :When the concert starts hit your "Pop Up Menu" button on your disc player remote and you will see this list of options on the TV screen:CHAPTER/SONGSAUDIO TRACKSLYRICSGo to AUDIO TRACKS and you will see a choice ofSTERIODOLBY DIGITALI usually listen to my music through stereo. There is no obvious set up at the opening of the DVD, The concert just starts up in stereo but there is no indication of this. My rig happened to be on surround. At that point it sounded bad. I switched to stereo on the rig and it sounded better but not great I think this is what most people are hearing (see first experience comments).Just now I set the on screen DVD machine setting to DOLBY DIGITAL and my rig to auto/surround etc.At that point the sound came alive ! My rig shows "Doubly Digital" and the sound is pretty darn great. Vocals forward, bass player heard just fine.Sooooooo . . . . use the DVD set up and make sure it matches your disc player and amp set up. All should basically be on Dolby Digital Surround: )I repeat . . .: )

Great Performances, Disappointing Production
There are some incredible performances on this DVD, but unfortunately, I saw the Austin City Limits programs they were taken from. How the producers decided to keep the songs they kept and cut the ones they cut is beyond me. Why not offer one or two DVDs with the entire Autin City Limits programs intact? All of the songs in both of the original performances were "keepers". Any "chaff", if there was any, had already been cut by the Austin City Limits folks. Any further editing could only diminish the final product. And it did.Another gripe is that the sound on this DVD has been compressed in a way that makes me constantly wish my ears would pop. Why the producers thought this was necessary is another mystery. The sound of the televised performances was, if not perfect, MUCH more realistic and listenable than the sound on the DVD. This is downright sad because the DVD medium is capable of so much MORE than TV sound and in this case you get less.My 3 star rating is not meant to say anything about Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble, who were one of my favorite bands and arguably one of the best of all time. It is rather a complaint against the tone-deaf, musically challeged folks in the record industry who feel they have to leave their substandard mark on an otherwise stellar piece of artistic material. If the music buying public is lucky, someday someone will re-release the SRV Austin City Limits pieces in their entirety with professionally engineered sound tracks. If you're a dyed-in-the-wool SRV fan, you will want to own this DVD anyway, but if you're not buying everything that Double Trouble ever released as a matter of principle and want something truly representative of how good the band could really be, I can recommend "Live At The El Macambo" without reservation. It's one of the best live performances, by anyone, ever captured on video.
