Simplifies Complex Cocktails!
VERY easy to follow and the book simplifies some super complex drinks down to just a few ingredients. The spirits are generalized for people using easy to find ones, but that means the results can be a bit underwhelming compared to when top shelf liquors are used. By that I mean the book will call for “aged Jamaican rum”, so good ol’ Myers Dark fits the bill perfectly. More “purist” cocktail recipes might specifically call for a 12 year old pot-stilled rum for that same recipe, and the result would be a more complex, tastier drink (though more expensive to make). The garnish and syrup recipes are also really helpful, though the syrups are simplified as well. Highly recommended for casual tiki drink mixing if you’re not worried about how Donn Beach would’ve made the same drink!

Excellent format easy to follow with a bit of history thrown in
This is such a great little book with more then 60 unusual and traditional tropical cocktail recipes. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Caribbean and lived in extreme south Florida all my life so many of the recipes I’ve had before but have not necessarily made myself. This book is beautifully formatted and interesting with a little history on each concoction and easy to follow recipes including the classics and variations of them. I love the little diagrams of a glass showing what gets added first and how much of each ingredient. This book is not only a great recipe book, it’s also a fun read and I learned a lot about drinks in general. I have a friend that was a one of those fancy glass juggling bar tenders and he really like this book too. Some of these drinks get rather involved with a long list of strange ingredients but there is a section on how to make all the strange sounding mixes and syrups too, which I really appreciated. This book will be sending you to the liquor store with a long shopping list so you can have everything at hand for your next party. This will be on my counter at our next gathering! This would make a great gift for your tropical loving, partying friends. I enjoyed this book, I now live in the mountains so it’s nice to have a taste of home, these drinks brought back lots of good memories! I would recommend this book.

Great tropical drink reference
I'm reviewing the Let's Get Tropical: More than 60 Cocktail Recipes from Caribbean Classics to Modern Tiki Drinks hardcover book.I'm a huge fan of tropical drinks and I also collect cookbooks and cocktail books. This is a well illustrated pictorial reference to all of the famous tropical cocktails. You'll learn about the most widely agreed upon origin of each cocktail and excellent instruction on how to make each drink at home.My one gripe with cocktail books in general is that they can often feature cordials, liqueurs or spirits that are difficult to find or expensive to purchase for making a single drink. You'll do fine with this book if you have a basic stocked home bar situation but some of the drinks need ingredients that aren't going to be in a typical home bar. Other recipes require some homework such as making special syrups (cinnamon syrup, for example), so you won't be able to make those "on a whim" without some forethought.I have a few favorite cocktail references and this one is one of those favorites. I love the ability to quickly locate a tropical drink and expert instruction on how to construct it. Overall, I'm happy with this book and it has expanded my repertoire on tropical cocktails. I still need practice making some of these, or maybe that's an excuse to make more of them!

SING ALONG PLEASE: Let’s get tropical, tropical. Let's get tropical, tropical . . .
No, I swear I have not been drinking these delicious drink recipes just now before beginning this review . . . When I saw the book title, I was reminded of the old Olivia Newton John song, “Let’s Get Physical.” If you are of a certain age, you’ll remember its catchy refrain. So now I’m in a good mood when I instead sing, “Let’s Get Tropical. . .” Of course, if you want to get physical, after first getting tropical, hey, you're an adult and that’s your business. Now on to the practical book stuff:What a fun summer drink book, or for anytime you are in the mood for tropical delights. I tried the Mojito and it’s right on. I like that the book is not too long, or too wordy. Easy to find something tasty to try. Also, one big bonus is that our family has long sought out a recipe for the great non-alcoholic tropical punch we love at parties and receptions. It’s here! If you don’t drink at all, are are cutting back for health reasons, or want to make both an alcoholic version and non-alcoholicone for your kids at same time, there are “loose the booze” options, too.

Excellent Book
I bought another book on Tiki drinks recently that wasn't the greatest, but this book is excellent. It is very informative and offers variations of drink recipes so you can even make non alcoholic versions. It also includes drinks that aren't classified as "Tiki" drinks, but are still very tropical
