and it chews through steel like some 7" harbor freight grinders at work
As far as first impressions, this grinder blew my expectations out of the water. I got the Makita 4 1/2" 10 amp angle grinder (fantastic machine) for Christmas and I've been using it for 5 months now, and it chews through steel like some 7" harbor freight grinders at work, but it feels lighter. That grinder set the bar pretty darn high. So naturally, I went for another beefy Makita when I wanted a 7", and I got this one. (with money from graduation presents, do you sense a trend?) Oh my goodness, I'm so glad I bought this. This thing is a friggin beast. However I'm a small guy (140lb) and I simply cannot effectively grind for long on something if it's not flat, I just can't control it comfortably. But that's why I have my 4 1/2" grinder. But when I have A LOT of flat grinding to do, there is not a single tool that can beat this behemoth. The only thing that can stop this grinder is... well, nothing. Also, this does have a switch locking mechanism. If you pull the safety switch, (in front of the trigger) and pull the trigger to start it, then release the trigger but hold the switch, it'll lock it on so you don't have to hold the trigger down, and to release, you just pull the trigger again. This is awesome, but you do have to be careful, because if it's locked on and you plug it in, it'll hop and around like a rabbit with a broken leg. And it'll scare the crap out of your boss. Ask me how I know. In conclusion, this is a beast of a tool and the weight resembles it. You barely have to put any pressure on it when grinding flat. It lends itself to very fast material removal in a flat position. However, the weight of it hinders any other position, and that is definitely something to consider, especially if you're not a 250 lb barbarian. But I will say it tag-teams well with the 10 amp 4 1/2" Makita. In the end it's well worth the money.

Rugged and beautiful.
Rugged and beautiful all at the same time. Used it to take down a cinder brick wall filled with concrete and rebar. Performed excellently.

The best polisher I've ever bought
The best I've found. I always come to Amazon to look for them since they are very durable and very powerful for professional work. I recommend them.

Serious Tool
I really like this tool. it is tough and well designed. plenty of power. it is heavy but good when doing table top grinding. If your grinding over head you will get tired from holding it. I had to go buy a tool box for it as Makita does not provide one. I got it at a cheaper price because it is reconditioned but is like new. It has plenty of soft cord and the wheel comes off easily with the tool provided. I like the guard design. loosen the tension bar and the guard can be moved around left or right. I usually work with the guard off ( I know you're unsafe by doing this) as it allows more access in tighter areas. I think this is a keeper. TS

Totally worth it 💪
There were certain areas that my regular 4.5" angle grinder could not reach, I decided to invest in this 7" angle grinder and glad I did! Yes, it's heavy but overly so unless you're holding this for hours on end. No way Makita should make this lighter like some are hoping. It's a 7" angle grinder, not a toy. I put on Makita's cutting disc as well as tried the grinding disc that comes with it. Because it spins slower than the 4.5" grinders, it felt safer but cut through 3/8" steel relatively quickly and with no issue. I'll try a flap disc sooner or later but where serious cutting depth and grinding is needed, I grab this 7" now. And it's Makita. Japanese quality 👍👍👍

Quality.
This is the second makita grinder I have owned in 30 years. Many different brands in between. I am a Milwaukee guy for the most part because the tools hold up for what I do as a contractor. I did have a Milwaukee not long ago but gave it away cause it always popped breakers. I ran this makita hard out of the box grinding concrete for 2 days. This never popped a breaker and I always find a dedicated when using them. I would buy another for sure.

Worked Well For Grinding Tile Thinset
I had several tile projects and for my first project I used a Dewalt grinder that was at least $100 more than this Makita. I sold it, not thinking I would be doing any more tiling. When I decided to tackle one last smaller project, I went with this less expensive Makita. Just like when I had used the Dewalt, I added a dust shroud with the grinder, along with a Dust Deputy and shop vac setup to help contain the dust. The grinder and shroud were nearly half the cost of the Dewalt setup. This Makita worked well for the job. I'd imagine if I went with the Makita originally it would have had no problem handling the 800+ sqft of total floor that needed to have thinset removed. Using this grinder and a cup wheel makes quick work of thinset and it's amazing how smooth and nice the plywood looks after you're done. Just need to vacuum remaining dust and mop the floor to prepare it for the underlayment. Saves buying new plywood if you're existing plywood is in decent shape. At today's cost of plywood and the lesser quality of the materials compared to 15-20 years ago, it's worth the time and cost to save having to rip out and install new plywood. Would not hesitate to recommend this tool!

Works great! Does what I need it to do in good time and without any bitching or moaning! Some Amazon recommended parts didn't fit. But that's an Amazon issue not a Makita issue. However it would seem practical that Makita's universal add ons fit all there respective products. (7" Makita grinder, 7" Makita grinder accessories). I was going to pay more for the Bosch ad it is my brand of choice right now. But when I checked the country of origin they were both China... so I would have paid a premium for a German labeled product that was manufactured in China anyway. 🤷♂️
