Fantastic book for any beginner
This book is very well done. Not just for teaching flatpicking, but for understanding the basics of theory on guitar and more. The author has a straight forward, clever way of exposing technique and then building on them as the book progresses. I should know, I am the best guitar player in the world that plays the best guitars ever. So, I write Amazon reviews to save humanity from their own stupidity. All jokes aside, fantastic book, this is a one and done type book. (For flatpicking)

flatpick
I love this book. I been playing guitar for several yrs. I know some lead scales etc but ive decided to pickup flatpicking . I have two other books that are good but not as interesting or step by step skill building. He shows some styles and licks then puts em in a tune. Just gotta practice. One thing i find disturbing about this book and i hope his parkin lot picker book isnt the same, the numbers on the tab are TOO STINKIN SMALL!!! Im 65 and i can read a small print bible. But these numbers are RIDICULOUSLY SMALL!! when i get my parkin lot book i hope its changed.but i recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn flatpicking.

This is not a "comprehensive study of contemporary flatpicking." It is an outdated shallow primer on various flatpicking topics
Several problems with this text leaving the reader and purchaser extremely disappointed1) The crime here is you're simply not getting what you've payed for! The product description is malarky. This is not a "comprehensive study of contemporary flatpicking." It is an outdated shallow primer on various flatpicking topics and by no means a method or study.2) As others have reported the tablature is not quite legible given the tiny print. And for this reason I can't believe Steve Kaufman signed off on this printing. In addition, the photos throughout the text are of extremely poor quality/low resolution.3) The product details say this book was published in 2015 but in fact there is no evidence to believe this book was published after 1991.Poor quality photos would not be an issue if the book contained a comprehensive study of contemporary bluegrass but it absolutely does not and to the extent that there is anything here worth of your time, the text is too small.

Great book, I am learning a lot
Great assortment of old-timey flatpicking tunes. The TAB transcription uses fingering that really makes sense- some books don't.The TAB fount is a little small and hard to read- that's my only criticism.

Great instruction for the beginning flatpicker
Steve Kaufman is one of my favorites. His instruction books are well written and easy to understand. This one will get anyone on their way to being a good flat picker. A very good addition to your music instructional library.

One of the very best books on flatpicking
Of the 9 flatpicking books I own, this is possibly my favorite, with clear instructions given in a careful and progressive way and many great classic tunes. If you can, get an older copy that has the CD included. My copy is dated 2002. My other favorite is Flatpicking Guitar for the Complete Ignoramus (Wayne Erbsen), with a different approach that nicely juxtaposes with this one. My 2010 edition also includes a CD.

Quality instruction
I have been using Kaufman's materials for almost 20 years. I have been to his Kamp and attended several of his workshops. He is one of the best FLATPICK teachers in the business.
