A book you can enjoy with your child
These Helen Cooper books with the duck, cat, and squirrel are better than your average little kid's book. The characters are a little fresh sometimes and have their own desires that don't always match up with their friends. There's drama and conflict resolution and lessons about friendship and cooperation. Relatable, funny, and the illustrations are great. A little repetitive, but it works well for the 3-6 year old readers.

Adorable book
This was one of my daughter's favorite books growing up. We lost our copy so I bought another one when my son turned 2. It is such a cute story with beautiful illustrations. And having your child beg you to read "dewishcious" over and over again is too cute.

Nice sequel
I don't really know if Delicious or Pumpkin Soup came first, but this one reads like a sequel, not as fresh, a little forced. Part of Pumpkin Soup's success lies in the mysterious relationships of the three characters; there's not so much mystery in Delicious. The trio's troubles and efforts just seem grouchy, and a little ungrateful.

Old habits...why not try something new?
Part of the Helen Cooper Pumpkin Soup series, the 32 good quality page book is a beautifully illustrated, well written tale with a distinct message ~ sharing and compromise ~ and don't we all know how difficult that can be at certain ages?(!)It also aims to tackle that other often precarious subject ~ 'the try something new' one, where, as the readers find out, appearances can be deceptive!ooOooFrom the back cover:'Every day, Cat, Squirrel and Duck make pumpkin soup ~ the best you have ever tasted. But one day, disaster strikes ~ there is not a single ripe pumpkin to be found! So, they make fish soup, mushroom soup and beetroot soup, but will the new soups be as delicious as their favourite? Duck doesn't think so ~ in fact he won't even try them!Poor Duck gets hungrier and hungrier and grumpier and grumpier, until at last Cat comes up with a soup that might just be...delicious!Simply delightful book, with an extra surprise, as 'the insects' get their own space, and witty comments, too!Look out for A Pipkin of PepperPumpkin SoupA Pipkin of Pepper

Not quite as good as 'Pumpkin Soup'
Not quite as good or entertaining I thought as `Pumpkin Soup' in my opinion - but then there is a limit to how you can story-tell in a fresh way about one subject; `soup'!The three characters are nice, though again; the story centres around the same one causing the trouble; the Duck! (would have made a nice change to have had one of the other animals `play-up'!)The pictures again are very nice, but not quite as engaging perhaps as the original `Pumpkin' book. This book (at least the hardback version does) includes a recipe for `pink' soup made from beetroots!

Daughter lived it
Wasn't as sure about this one as the first two books. (Pumpkin soup and pipkin of pepper) but once we read it together it was interesting to see the reaction. 6 year old daughter thought at first that duck was being rude and should get nothing but then felt sorry for him and wanted to help. Real emotional journey.
