From the Manufacturer For use in collecting your food waste from the kitchen. The EcoBio bag can be thrown away and it will biodegrade in longer term commercial composts along with the food waste itself. EcoSafe biodegradable products are engineered to degrade and totally fragment in 90 to 120 days and 60-percent mineralize within 12 to 24 months when disposed of in a well managed commercial compost facility and subsequent soil application.

Decent bag, not really big enough for 13-gallon kitchen bins
These bags are reasonably durable for a compostable bag - if you fill them with lots of wet heavy stuff, you're probably in trouble, but we fill them with food scraps, compostable plates, cups and flatware, and they hold up just fine. We recently held a party with ~20 adults and ~25 elementary school children, and filled five of these bags with compostable waste, and none tore. They seem to hold up for several days waiting for the composting service just fine too.Where these bags fall down on the job is their size - they are only just tall enough for a standard 13-gallon trash can, and very slippery. As soon as you throw a few items into the can they pull it down and it collapses inside the trash can, so you have to keep pulling it back up. These would probably be great in an eight gallon trash can, or should be about eight inches taller so they either stay in place well or can be held in place with an elastic.

Waited A While Before Reviewing
Assuming that these bags truly are easier on the environment than store-bought bags, I would rate them as a success. But that is assuming ...I've been using them for over a year now, not for composting, but just for household wastebaskets. No, they are not as tough as store-bought bags, but I didn't expect them to be. They are indeed lightweight. They will not withstand shards of broken glass (nor will store-bought bags) or other sharp objects. But they have proven more than adequate for ordinary household use. This type of product, however imperfect, seems to represent a positive step forward. Assuming ...

EcoSafe's QA department must be nonexistent.
This is a terrible product. I'm about halfway through the roll, and there is not one bag that hasn't ripped either at the point it was torn off the roll (very carefully, I might add) or split from the top before I could even put anything in it. I would never trust these to last in a bin for a few days. I am only using them for items I'm going to take out to the yard/food waste bin right away, and even then I have to double bag and carry it with both hands to be sure it doesn't rip some more.

Much better than anything we have found in the local stores
We are very pleased with the performance of these bags. They hold together well and don't tear under the weight of a few days worth of kitchen waste. They also stay in place in the garbage can, unlike other flimsier bags that fold over at the top and slide down into the can. They are easy to handle and easy to close up. We bought one box just to try them out and will now buy them regularly to handle all our kitchen waste.

As expected.
Meant to get the 2.5 gallon bags and this wasn't a nice mistake. The material is weak, under heavy load, so a larger bag isn't that helpful. I can't really replace my usual kitchen\household regular trash bag with this, unless I wanted to take the bin and the bag for immediate transfer.I am using instead of returning, in other niche ways, for now.

The Best I've Found
We've been using these bags regularly for several years now with no complaints. We don't overload the trash and these work really well for us. The degradable plastic in general does seem to tear somewhat easier than "normal" plastic. We just got used to it, see the comment about overloading. It seems to me a more than acceptable tradeoff to get a full size well performing bag that is degradable. And no, I'm not known to be a tree hugger!

Works Well
I went thru many ASTM D6400 degradable bags - and hated most. But this brand actually fits the 13 gallon kitchen trash can, but holds up well. Occasionally they'll tear too, ruining one of two bags. And had nearly half a dozen bags (out of maybe 100 I've used) with a manufacturing defect with cuts in the bags. Other than that - I use three sizes and all work well (even hauling the cat litter in the 30 gallon bags).

Best compostable bags we tried
EcoSafe became our brand of choice, after giving several other ones (~6) a chance. We use 2 different sizes, and these bags had less leaks, breakage and just feel and contain smells better then all of the other ones we have tried over the last few years. We live in an apartment, quality bags are important.
