This elegant top hat by will add timeless style to any outfit. Constructed of 100-percent wool felt, this hat is finished with grosgrain ribbon trim and a feather accent. Within twenty years top hats had become popular with all social classes, with even workmen wearing them. At that time those worn by members of the upper classes were usually made of felted beaver fur, while those worn by working men were made of rabbit fur. The hats became part of the uniforms worn by policemen and postmen (to give them the appearance of authority); since these people spent most of their time outdoors, their hats were topped with black oilcloth. During the early part of the 19th century felted beaver fur was gradually replaced by silk, though the silk topper met with resistance from those who preferred the beaver hat. A short-lived fad in the 1820s and 1830s was the style of top-hat with concave sides. The peak of the top hats popularity in the 1840s and the 1850s saw it reach its most extreme form, with ever higher crowns and narrow brims. The stovepipe hat was a variety with mostly straight sides, while one with slightly convex sides was called the chimney. The stovepipe hat was popularized in the US by Abraham Lincoln during his presidency; it is said that Lincoln would keep important letters inside the hat.

Great hat for price
Great top hat for the price! Decent quality and shape. Not like the cheapies you get at Halloween stores.

Great Hat!! Steam it and it will fit like a glove!
This is a great hat! First, I correctly measured my head and ordered the proper size. When the hat arrived, it was a bit too snug but if I pulled on the front, it was fine. The measurement of the hat was correct, but it wasn't fitting the shape of my head. I did some research on the internet and learned about "steaming" a wool hat. Basically you fill your tea kettle with water and set it to boil. Once the water is boiling and your tea kettle is whistling, hold the hat UPSIDE DOWN (Do not steam the inside of the hat!) and rotate the hat around in the steam, letting the stream hit the rim of the hat. Be careful not to burn your fingers. I held the rim of the hat just a few inches from the spout of the tea kettle. After about 2 minutes of steaming the hat, I put it on and it felt better but it was still a little stiff. I steamed it for a couple more minutes and put it on again. It molded perfectly to the shape of my head. Finally, you need to wear the hat until it is completely dry. I wore mine the rest of the day. I used the hat the following day at an event for 5 hours and it was great. I almost forgot I had it on, yet I could lean over without it falling off. Elegante Men's Black Top Hat - 100% Wool (Large)

Pretty Darn Good Hat
I bought this hat for a costume I must wear for high school marching band. The hat itself looks really well made. It has a nice and soft cloth feel, yet a sturdy, plastic shell to keep its form. The hat fits, but it feels a little tight (probably due to large amounts of hair). My only critique is that the hat arrived a little misshapen around the rim (one side had kinda folded in a little). For the price, I'd say this hat is a great buy.

Wore this to a dinner theater, lots of compliments
It looks really good for the price and much nicer than a costume version. I did have to widen it slightly front to back to reshape.

Lovely Hat
This hat I bought about a year ago and it has held up well. I wanted a top hat that was sturdy and looked authentic; it was worth the splurge. I have used it as a driving hat on sunny days (gives a shade to the eyes while leaving clear peripheral vision); it has been used in a play (the Mad Hatter wore it); and I and others have used it in costumes just for fun. It is a trifle big. When my hair is braided starting high on the head it rests comfortably; otherwise, it likes to slip down. I did specifically choose a large size, though, because I would rather have something a little large than something too small. It has been a delightful piece to my wardrobe and still looks good as new.

No flaws a re-block won't fix
This hat was the right size in general, its crown marginally broader and shorter in particular. No flaws exist in it that a re-block won't fix, and in 2024, it gets exactly such a re-block.

Stunning and Dapper
It's on my ears, but I'll live with it, the band was wrinkle free, no damage to the hat inside, it was double boxed, well packaged, feather was in good condition. I'd whine a bit about the plastic bit that held the tag, I couldn't push it all the way out, it hides under the black band, so its fine. It is one thing to see a picture of it and another to see it, put it on your head, and look in the mirror. I know fashions don't last forever but Wow, this thing looks good. I'll be getting it a proper hat box soon. Thanks.
