Almost 30 years after first publication, still relevant
Almost 30 years after first publication, this essay remains relevant as to how professions develop over time and in different countries. It is written in a highly academic manner, so it is a bit challenging to stay engaged in reading the book, but it's a fascinating look at the history of the accounting, legal, and medical professions in particular. Abbott compares how those professions developed differently in the US, UK, and France and offers potential explanations for these differences.

Interesting
The contest is very interesting and useful for sociology students working on this field. I bought a used version from which I expected better quality.

Poor book quality, good read
Unfortunately, despite being a good read so far, I'm writing a 1-star review because of the quality of this book. Every third page is entirely detached from the spine. I'm 55 pages in and have had to stop reading because I've lost pages and can't keep up with the number of loose sheets. Very disappointed.

Great Book
This is a book I have long wanted to obtain but have had difficulty finding it so I was well pleased when Amazon came up with this is a recommendation. The book arrived promptly, in excellent condition and as scheduled. The book itself has proved to be every bit as good as I expected and I have greatly enjoyed reading it. As I am starting a new degree course, I have found this both interesting and highly relevant to my studies. Although somewhat dated, the concepts it illustrates are still relevant. All in all, a great book and one I shall be able to use for reference for many years.
