Didn’t work for my group but it may for yours.
I had to return this. The mysteries were way too hard. There were only 3 kids in the class who able to tackle one of the problems. The next day I tried another with them but they said they weren’t interested because they don’t like to work that hard. Oh my. It has nothing to do with the book or the quality of the problems, the kids just want things to be easy so I will have to slowly give them challenging problems because I know they can handle it and don’t want to encourage their willingness to limit themselves.

Great book for teaching kids word problems...
My son loves math but he struggles with word problems. His struggles come from not knowing which mathematical operation to apply to the problem. Most books only offer problems isolating a single operation and grill the operation in successive problems. This book fills a niche by providing open-ended problems that lead kids to think through all options and to apply those options in a systematic way. I wish I had this book when I were young; it might have given me a better grasp of applying mathematical operations to more real-world problems. If you want your kid to have more exposure to word problems then give this book a try. The book is not expensive and offers a lot for the low price tag. Finally, my son recommends it and gave it a 5-star rating and I agree with his rating.

Fun!
I use these for my students - they love them! I also have the Short Mysteries for Science. They are engaging, quick, and require students to use their skills to solve them!

Very Nice Teaching Resource
The problems contained in this book would challenge most students to develop good mathematical problem solving skills. Also, I see the potential for any math teacher or parent revamping the problems in this book to create additional problems to reinforce those skills in students.

Use it with 9 year Old 3rd Grader
This book is good to get your children thinking. I use it with my 9 yro 3rd graders. Some concepts are beyond him, but it helps as discussion and critical thinking piece.

Being a detective!
Really challenged my 9 year old grandson to "study" the clues and come up with an answer. And when he was incorrect in his solution, he learned the right way to organize the clues. A nice way to spend an evening together!

Like to use in class for a change of the norm. Also good for those that need extra to do when done.

good for middle schoolers and upper elementary
A fancy way to rename written math problems but pretty well done - those who like math will find it fun - not sure if it will connect with the others - all who pursue it will find some fun tricks and new ways math indeed is in everyday life

USA based problems
I loved the concept but didn't realise the problems are USA based and require knowledge of facts not familiar to UK children, so disappointment in our family.

Disappointing
Not the content or organisation of content you'd expect. More words is exactly what this book needs and consultation with a good editor.
