Awesome quality value for the beginner
Looks to be a great value. Nice rod and a solid reel. plus line an leader for $120 and SALTWATER RATED! At retail the rod and reel retail for $90 each, line is $40 and the leader is $5. A $225 value, this is a steal, I paid $150 for the 5/6 weight version of this rod/reel combo from Cabelas (model 690-4). I realized it was too light and wanted to exchange it for this 8 weight version, then I found this deal on Amazon so I just returned the other one. Arrived in perfect condition thanks to the awesome carrying case that's included. To get started in the fly fishing game, I can't imagine finding a better deal. I plan to chase bass and small saltwater game with this.

Very nice
This is one of the best values when it comes to someone learning or just getting started fly fishing. The weight I bought has allowed my brother to begin to try it out with topwater flies for bass fishing. I would get this for anyone starting out or if you just want a reliable combo to keep in the car in case you drive by a nice spot to try your luck.

Redington entry level delivers
With a trip planned to fish the flats by Little Talbot Island I needed a fly rod heavier than my TFO 5 wt., but couldn't spend a lot of money. After looking around for a few weeks I found the Redington Crosswater 8 wt. combo. Of course it is an entry-level fly rod/reel for Redington, but at least I was getting a reputable company name for the price I was looking to pay. I was pleased when my purchase arrived and even more pleased at its performance. It casts easy enough for my casting style and although its not a high-end, high-dollar rig it worked beautifully. Considering the fact that I will very seldom need an 8wt., I'm quite happy with the product. Avidmax was the store this order shipped from and even though there was some initial confusion on my next day air order, they went above and beyond to assure I would have the product in hand before leaving on my trip. I highly recommend them!

Perfect combo for an entry level angler
My boyfriend bought this for me for my birthday because I currently use a low-end rod combo. He bought this combo because when I tried his rod, it was too heavy and this one looked promising as a lighter option.Just from pulling it out of the box and case, I can say that this was a good purchase. It's very lightweight and will be perfect for our summer fishing excursions. I'm excited for the salmon to start running so I can see how this baby puts up with 17 miles of bumpy off-roading and the different types of salmon in Alaska.

Overall it seems to be a good quality rod reel combo
Overall it seems to be a good quality rod reel combo, but it was very tip heavy. I added a little counter weight to the butt of the rod. Now it casts easier with less fatigue.

Broken reel seat
First off, Redington is a great brand of rods and reels. In fact when I felt this rod in hand I could tell it was quality. In fact there are some pretty good reviews out there for the rods themselves. The reel on the other hand felt super flimsy. It felt like plastic which was interesting because on the description I couldn't find and real description of the reel. When I opened up the package I realized that the reel case was not zip-tied in so it just slid right out of its packaging. Also, there was no invoice provided. When i opened up the carrying case the reel fell into my hand. I thought nothing of it until i tried to put it onto the rod. The reel seat was broken! I was pretty angry and immediately returned it. They were pretty cool about the refund. Come to find out also that this is one of the only Redington products that doesn't have a lifetime warranty. It only has a one year warranty and that says a lot about this product. I would save a few more bucks and get the next model up. Don't let this dissuade you from buying redington because their products are outstanding!

Very nice rod
I got this just in time for the first salmon run on the Russian river. Worked good for me, a beginner, and landed my first limit of sokeye. Unfortunately the tip broke off at the end of the day, while I pulled the last fish. i will see if the reddington warranty holds or if it ends up costlier than buying another one
