Very informative, easy to read/comprehend
When working toward my degree as a Natural Health Consultant, David Hoffman was one of the authors of my myriads of textbooks. While this particular book is a newer edition than the one I have in my personal library from my college DAZE :) , I purchased it for a friend who also loves holistic/natural remedies and keeps borrowing my book. Decided to get her one for her own library for her birthday. I know she is going to love it. Filled with bright, colorful pictures of plants, herbs, how-to's, easy to follow instructions, recipes, explanations, etc. Maybe NOT the book for the beginner, but soon to follow the die-hard holistic interest.

Great Book
One of my top 10 favorites, definitely one of my" go to" books, a classic. Extremely informative, very well written, straight forward, easy to follow step by step instructions on preparing home medicine. A really beautiful modern herbal, it not only covers a wide array of herbs but includes in depth information on how to grow, harvest, dry, store & use each plant, it contains a cross reference by illness section as well. Beautiful illustrations & photography. One of the first books I reach for.

excellent starter book
Does an excellent job of covering basic herbs, preparations, and treatments. Wish it covered some other herbs but for me a beginner it is great. The only drawback is that the pictures are in black and white, color would make the herbs easier to identify.

Keep it handy
I have used this book for some years now and purchased this copy for a friend. I can not recommend it any more than that.Love the book for all the great information in it and use it almost daily. Natural herbs are so much better than all the prescriptions the doctors give you with all the bad side effects, with nature there are never bad side effects. I plan to continue using the book for back up information and when it starts to fall apart I will get another one. All the illustrations and pictures are great too.

Practical, usable, and readable
Provides instructions on how to make tinctures, infusions, salves, etc. It also gives information on specific healing herbs and the amounts needed for brews. This is an excellent guide for those who have more than a passing understanding of herbalism but not so complicated a novice could not read it. Mr Hoffman does use medical terminology, which is appropriate, and I have expanded my vocabulary to include more specific descriptions of symptoms.
