Not for my purposes
Well, if you are looking for practiced reading passages and basic comprehension MC questions, this us for you. I think it would be helpful in. Remedial Reading class. Too easy for my 8th graders. Eighth grade materials are hard to find; most middle school materials are geared toward sixth grade. Just didn't meet my needs.

I would probably act in a more drastic manner than just posting a poor comment.
This is nearly a copy of "Reading Comprehension" /Success in 20 minutes a day /published in 2012, with the exception of Pre-test and Post-test and a section about "writing skills". I am appalled with this kind of "business making" - selling the same material in a different cover - a total fraud!!! . Will certainly avoid this publisher in the future. The only reason that I am not asking for the money back that is because I don't live in the US, so it is really complicated to send it back, but otherwise, I would probably act in a more drastic manner than just posting a poor comment..

Tedious, but comprehensive
Book is more of a lesson manual than actual reading comprehension practice exercises. My student is often bored reading about technique and would probably benefit more from exercises. Still, this is well-written and rather comprehensive and I'm glad to have it.

Good review of basic academic reading and writing skills
This book provides a simple, excellent review of basic academic reading and writing skills. It includes material such as finding the main idea of each paragraph and summarizing a short article. Although it is written to the middle school student, I suspect a typical middle school student would not understand or only partially understand. It seems most suitable for an adult with good literacy skills who is helping their middle school child (or struggling high school child) with the basics of academic reading, taking notes, and writing essays. A weakness of the book is a lack of practice material (the book generally provides a short, easy example and a slightly longer, slightly harder example, then an exercise or two and then moves on). To be fair, more exercises are available online (which I have not investigated). So, I use this book as a guide and I use other resources for practice.
