The Answer To My Hair Product Search
I just got my first faux hawk haircut, and have been trying different styling products left and right. Some were too gooey, some made my hair feel crusty, and some didn't dare to hold up my hair (the top is like 3-4 inches). I also dance, exercise, etc, so I needed something that could hold up all day. I bought maybe 20 or so different options to try, took notes on each, and ranked them on the qualities I needed. Granted, everyone has different hair needs. For me though, this is an amazing product. It keeps the hair flexible, yet holds strong. It has a matte look and provides texture and spikiness without being crusty. It does not make my allergies go mad. It also washes out SUPER easily! Best of all, it has a delicious, vanilla-like fragrance that I just love to smell. Bonus points- I found out if applied on dry hair and I use a fine tooth comb or brush to brush my hair into shape, it will stay up all day with just the one product! Before, I was using a base volume product to blow dry hair, then add a second product. Now I can just let my hair air dry, and put a little of this in! The big jar is also an amazing value. Thank you so much for this product, Layrite.

Perfect for stubborn ethnic hair for combovers
I've tried many styling products for my hard Asian hair, and while some Japanese and Korean waxes have a solid hold, none of them ever wash out clean and require conditioning then shampooing to fully remove the rubbery finish. I recently tried the Duke & Cannon Hurricane Pomade from Target, excited since it claimed to "wash out easily" -- but that wasn't the case. Asian hair is notoriously hard to flatten without splashing out big bucks for a perm -- and wearing hats all the time doesn't physically change the nature of your hair (I don't know why so many guys recommend that. It doesn't do jack.). I had used the Original version of Layrite years ago when I rocked a combover, but wanted something with a more solid feel, as I generally do not like the greasy feel of pomades. I didn't know there was this Cement Clay, so I took a chance based off Layrite's easy-rinse promise, and it was perfect -- the clay has that solid, matte finish and actually holds your style down. It held down better than the Original formula. It washes out alright with a conditioner first, then shampoo next -- although sometimes it does still seem to leave a slight film in your hair (but most clays unfortunately do this). My only wish is Layrite released fragrance-free versions of their stuff, as the cream-soda scent can be overwhelming sometimes. But overall, as long as I want to rock combovers, I think this is THE product. Asian guys with hard stubborn hair who want to get their hair flat, this product does it. But note for long-term combovers, I've heard it's still best to perform some chemical treatment to flatten your hair; less product and time needed to style your hair properly.

Amazing product
This is hands-down my absolute favorite pomade I’ve been loyal to it since I was 18, and now at 31, it’s still the only one I truly trust with my hair. I even still have one of the older tin designs tucked away as a keepsake (the older look was cool), but I have to say, the new packaging is a fantastic upgrade, just looks like more of a premium product now. My hair is incredibly unruly: with multiple stubborn cowlicks that refuse to behave no matter what I try. Other products either fail to hold them down or leave my style falling flat by lunchtime. This pomade changes everything it completely tames those cowlicks, provides rock-solid all-day hold, and keeps everything looking sharp from morning to night without feeling stiff or crunchy. The scent is another huge win. It’s labeled as cream soda, but to me, it comes across as a smooth, creamy vanilla with a subtle smoky undertone warm, inviting, and never overpowering. It’s subtle enough that it layers perfectly under cologne or just on its own without clashing or filling the room. I’ve used plenty of heavily scented products that become headache-inducing, but this one is spot-on: noticeable up close but polite from a distance. Application is effortless too. It emulsifies beautifully in my hands with just a quick rub, scoops out smoothly, and distributes evenly whether I’m applying it to dry hair for a more textured look or damp for extra control. Throughout the day, my hair stays workable no flaking, and I can restyle if needed without starting from scratch. I’ve tried a ton of pomades over the years high-hold, medium, water-based, oil-based and nothing else has matched this one for my hair type. Seriously, I don’t know why I ever experimented with anything else; this is the gold standard for me. My one (and only) minor critique is that I’d love to see healthier, cleaner ingredients in the formula. There are a couple of components I’m not thrilled about from a long-term health perspective, which prevents me from giving it a perfect 5 stars. That said, the performance is so outstanding that it’s still a solid 4.5/5 in my book, and I keep coming back to it anyway. If you’re dealing with stubborn, cowlick-prone hair and want reliable, all-day control with a great subtle scent, do yourself a favor and give this one a shot you might just find your holy grail too! Highly recommended.

One of the Best
Layrite delivers on the promise of high hold, matte finish, and easily washes out. It also smells great, doesnt weigh your hair down, adds great texture, and is very easy to work with a comb or brush. You wont find yourself pulling hard on your hair when styling. The only negative some might see is that you'll need a little bit more product than many other brands. Layrite has a thick consistency and requires more time to warm and apply. It really isnt a big deal. It is actually how a hair clay should be, but if youre previously using an inferior product you'll probably be a little annoyed initially. In the end, you will be happy with Layrite. If you've been searching, this is it.
