Great for personal study and teaching prep
Danny Akin is an excellent teacher of Mark's gospel. It felt like this is an edited version of his sermon notes, but that's great. Lots of helpful illustrations. I also appreciated the very short (5-7 page) chapters. This allowed me to use it as a guide to my regular study time. Like most folks I don't have an hour to sit down and read and take notes, but I often have 20-30 minutes and the chapter sizes were great.Although I didn't use it for group study, he provides a lot of good questions at the end of each chapter.

Good series, but disappointed at the end
I enjoy these "Christ-Centered Exposition Commentaries" and this one on the Gospel of Mark is good. However, I was disappointed that they left off Mark 16:9-20. I am fully aware that the earliest manuscripts do not include these verses, however I felt like they should at least be addressed. Especially since Mark 16:16 is usually a verse that is much debated over. It would've been helpful to get some more insight. For that reason, I gave it only four stars.

Useful Study Guide on Mark
This was my first time reading/using one of the Christ-Centered Exposition commentaries. I used it, along with several other commentaries on Mark, as part of my weekly preparation to teach through the book. In light of the variety of sources I used, my feedback on Akin's contribution to commentaries on Mark is as follows:- As a preaching commentary, I preferred Hughes' two-volumes in the Preaching the Word commentary series.- As a technical commentary, which I don't think the CCEC sets out to be, it lacks a lot of the detail a Pastor might need while studying (NIGTC and PNTC and NAC, in that order for me, proved to be more helpful in this regard). In conclusion, I appreciated how succinct and readable this commentary is, but I would probably recommend it more as a Bible study supplement than as an in-depth study of Mark.

SBC preaching pastor loves it! Worth every penny...
Exceptional preaching commentary! Created by some of the best in Protestant scholarship, it gives me enough commentary to understand the text, but also preaching outlines and related theological material. In all of it, Christ in all of Scripture is central through the entire commentary. Amazingly, this little commentary gem packs so much good material that this Southern Baptist pastor will be getting more of these little beauties. Love it! I will certainly buy more in this commentary series.I've just started using this commentary series but own most other conservative mid range and exegetical series like NIV Application, NAC, NICOT, NICNT, Preach the Word series, BST, Pillar, ZECNT, Baker Exegetical Commentary New Testament, etc. This commentary series fits the working pastor-theologian who has short hours of sermon preparation but needs good content and outlines fast.

I can’t wait to meet Mark face to face!
Mark would be the premiere youth conference speaker if he was with us today. Clear. Correct. Compassionate. He quickly shared the truth without encroaching on anyone’s attention span. Danny Akin helps to exalt Jesus through a guy that realized failure need not be final. rand hummel

Helpful commentary.
I have purchased two of the Christ Centered Exposition book. The commentary on Matthew and the commentary on Mark. I can recommend both. They are easy to understand and easy to read.
