Son of Chicken Qabalah: Rabbi Lamed Ben Clifford's (Mostly Painless) Practical Qabalah Course

Internalizing the Hermetic Qabalah
This 2018 book is a sequel to Lon's popular "Chicken Qabalah of Rabbi Lamed Ben Clifford" (2001). Lamed Ben Clifford is Lon's fictional creation. Lon thought all of us Hermetic Qabalists needed our own Rabbi, who would not sneer at our Tarot cards and pagan corospondances on the Tree of Life. Ben Clifford's Qabalah was for all of us and it was presented in a humorous style that made the otherwise dry subject come alive. It became one of the best introductions to the subject at least from a Hermetic perspective. The fictional Ben Clifford has passed away but he has left a legacy: a three degree Qabalistic initiation system based on the Sepher Yetzirah's Cube of Space and the Golden Dawn's Hermetic Hebrew alphabet corospondances. Starting with the Three Mother Letters in the first degree (the original tetragrammaton) the candidate next internalizes the Seven Double Letters attributed to the planets, and finally, in the Third and last degree, he or she, installs the Twelve Simple letters internalizing the entire Hermetic Qabalistic universe. This is all accomplished with mudras, flashing colors a pitch pipe and geometric mandalas. What we did with a yoga system in "Hermetic Yoga, Beyond the Middle Pillar" (2015) Lon has done in a Temple initiation format. This little book of his is a treasure and will make Hermetic Magick come alive for everyone who conscientiously studies it. -- Reviewed by Poke Runyon -- host on The Hermetic Hour and author of Hermetic Yoga, Beyond the Middle Pillar.

Where the rubber (chicken) meets the road!
This book is way more than "just a book." While it IS indeed a great read, as can be expected from Lon Milo DuQuette, the real magic is in the initiatory tools that he gives here. We actually DID these 3 degrees of initiation with a group, and it was incredible! The group included a nice mix of seasoned magicians as well as complete newbies who were just interested in checking out the material. All agreed that the effects of the initiations were very real indeed, and all agreed that they now have a much deeper relationship with the Hebrew alphabet and the basic concepts of Qabalah. Personally, I have had a hard time internalizing these letters into my own magical world and thinking in spite of some years of familiarity with them. However, after going through the actual exercises laid out in this book, I feel that I "own" them in a much deeper and more profound way. Armchair magicians may not get so much out of the book, and for those who may think, "This is a little too complicated to pull off..." I assure you, the material IS totally do-able, and you will get the most out of it by DOING it! Thank you so much to Lon Milo DuQuette for creating this material and giving it to the world! Generations of Chicken Qabalists will be forever indebted to you for saving and sharing the Rabbi's work! :-)

Great book for self initiations
Chicken Qabalah has been my favorite book on this subject for years. This follow-up to that book takes things one step further by explaining in GREAT detail the initiation process, in a group or by yourself. I have already begun the process and hope to continue through all 3 stages. As usual, Lon imparts his tremendous knowledge of this subject with lots of laughs and simple explanations, making the material not only easy to understand but also fun to read. I'm so glad I stumbled upon Lon so many years ago and would recommend his books on Amazon and his YouTube videos to anyone interested in the Occult.

Just finished reading SoCQ
I can always count on Lon's writing being entertaining and informative. He has a unique ability to demystify magick and Thelema without watering it down. Son of Chicken Qabalah is no exception. It is a fun read on the serious subject of initiation.

Humorously serious, seriously humorous further entry into the Qabalah
Or kabbalah, or Cabala. Whatever. Vast amounts of information entertainingly packaged for ease of imbibing. Don't get drunk on it, though, or you may find yourself doing something you didn't entirely intend! Repays re-reading a few times, then going to the books in the bibliography, assuming you read that far...

A grab bag of great ritual techniques.
This is a brilliant companion to the "The Chicken Qabalah," providing ritual and tools for not just learning, but *knowing* the beautiful conceptual framework provided by the 22 Hebrew letters. The rituals themselves are a cornucopia of initiatory techniques and methods which engage all the senses in their working. Even if you are already well-versed in Qabalah, this clear and practical example of an Initiatory system is well worth studying. I know I certainly plan to borrow some of these ideas for to incorporate into my own ritual work.

Illuminate the mysteries of the Chicken. Qabalah.
Its said a lot but his ability to make Qabalah not boring to me is really an amazing talent. This is a book of little initiations, meditations, etc and I'm really happy with it. If you're looking to just to learn and not really engage with Qabalah on a ritual level, I highly recommend the first Chicken Qabalah, easily one of my favorite beginner occult books. Its always refreshing when I see occultists with a sense of humor and self-awareness instead of just using it as a dark aesthetic.

A wonderful complimentary work to the original Chicken Qabalah
Where the first book gave you an intricate explanation of the qabalah, this book gives you a virtual "initiation" to this system where you can put the pieces together. The "rituals" were well staged and the book flows without any issues. The mental picture you can paint with the rituals in this book to piece together the concepts in the original is priceless. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
