A MIRACLE of RELIEF
I found this to be an excellent product with a loud piercing sound that you could not sleep through. Since I was the only other person in the house, this was ideal when I was either in my own bedroom on the other side of the wall, or downstairs and in another room, or even yet another level further downstairs, in other words this was audible from level 1 to level 3. This alert *is* going to wake up anyone else in the house, in my opinion, unless their door is closed, they are a very heavy sleeper, their bedroom is far away, and maybe even then. Other reviewers have discussed how it is possible to muffle the sound by wrapping it in a towel or something, so it can be muted, but that was the last thing I was interested in.The battery also lasts an extremely long time, something like a year or more of 24x7 use, and there is a highly visible blinking light to assure you the battery is still working (the light is small, and won't keep anyone awake). This was some of the best money I've ever spent, allowing me to actually sleep in my own bed with absolute confidence I would be awakened no matter how deeply I was sleeping, and as exhausted as I was, I had begun to sleep very deeply without wanting to.The instructions are very clear, just put the batteries in, adjust the mat under the sleeper, and hang the device on their doorknob or wherever - the cord beyween the mat and the alarm device was plenty long enough to be convenient. You can place the mat under the other person's shoulders, so that it goes off if their shoulders come off the mat (which is about a yard wide, so just rolling over on top of it will not trigger it), or you can place it under them lower down, around the middle of their ribs, so it is triggered only if they actually sit up. The device is sensitive and works immediately with no dangerous time lag, when pressure contact on the mat is removed. It does not go off if someone just rolls back and forth on it or shifts position. I experimented with the proper placement by lying on top of it myself, and adjusting its location to be under my ribs, so that it would go off when my shoulders got about 8" off the bed, as I was in the process of sitting up. It worked perfectly EVERY TIME.I did not actually *use* the feature of the magnetic tether for detecting when someone sitting, gets up from a chair, but I did *test* it, and found it unobtrusive and lightweight to the sitting person, and extremely effective.I said out loud to myself and to others, repeatedly, that this was the best money I'd ever spent in my life. I no longer had to sleep on the floor by the bed so I'd be physically stepped on and awakened, or on the floor in the hallway just outside the open door in the hopes I would hear activity and wake up in time, and no longer did I have to attempt to stay awake all night at the foot of the bed, in an uncomfortable chair, in case something happened. This product was a miracle of relief to me, I have absolutely NO complaints about it, and only the HIGHEST praise. It's simple to use, it works brilliantly, there is a reassuring light visible from at least 60 feet away (probably farther) so you know it's on, the light lets you know when the battery finally *does* begin to get weak, but the sound is still very loud and the device still works strongly for WEEKS after the "weak battery" light alert comes on, so there is NO concern about being surprised by it suddenly stopping working. I have nothing but the highest praise - and my very deepest gratitude - for this product.

Wow it's more than I wanted
my mother with dementia was getting up in the middle of the night and falling. This alarm is the best. I had another that clipped on her clothing but when it went off the siren sound scared her. This mat alarm is perfect because you can change the sounds. The one that came with it was a little melody that plays a few seconds then beeps. She gets back into bed to turn it off! It has options so you can monitor it at a distance that is great!

Very helpful device for bedridden patients who have tendency to get up
For the most part this worked well for my dear friend. The only thing that was tricky was using it in the chair. Somehow she managed to fall out of the chair with it attracted to her. Could have been user error.

reliable bed and chair alarm. batteries last a long time. it's nice that it's easy to move from the bed to the chair for the day use, without much hassle or extraneous cords. does have a tendency to slide around under the mattress cover, but this can be address by laying it on a slip proof mat or checking it every night before bedtime. best to place it just below the pillows, so that once the shoulders come up it goes off, before the feet hit the floor. we combined this with a baby monitor so that we can hear it in the other room, and have had zero falls since using this set up.

Might work if the one being cared for doesn't have cognitive issues
This bed alarm is VERY sensitive, which means it goes off if you have someone who just happens to be restless in bed. I wouldn't advise getting this for someone with cognitive issues. My father-in-law thought someone was in the room with him, which only confused him more, and he got so frustrated by it constantly going off that he just tore it off the bed. So we're back to paying a night-time caregiver, whose sole job it is to tell him it's the middle of the night, he's not missing any appointment, and he should go back to bed.

A must for Alzheimer's care givers.
I bought this as I'm the primary caregiver for my father with mid stage Ahlzeimers. He is Sun downing and wakes at night anf wants to get up and walk around. I wasn't sleeping well because i was always trying to listen for him so he wouldn't wander or fall. With this pad, the minute he sits up in bed, the musical alarm goes off and I hear it in another room. I'm so thankful for this and it runs on a couple AA batteries. No plug in needed.

Great way to keep tabs on a wanderer
My father was very unstable due to advance parkinsons's disease. However, that did not stop him from trying to get up and wander around. The alarm let's you know when he attempting a break away!
