It tarnishes rather quickly, at least the gold does i haven't made anything out of the silver yet so can't answer about that but it's cheap so you can just make another new chain instead of cleaning. Took me about 5 minutes to make a new neck chain for my wife's clock pendant so it's not a hassle. First one lasted about 3 months.
