Extremely smooth and strong reel!

I bought the 4000 size for inshore - light surf and pier.Reel is extremely smooth, great castability, and it's very light.The light weight makes me believe the durability could be compromised, but I haven't had any problems so far, so no news is good news.

Very smooth reel! Loaded it with 30lb braid and fishing structure for snook with this. Works great so far.

After first use just shore casting, reel has developed an unacceptable spool noise that indicates spool bearing, not the line roller. After light freshwater rinse as directed, and with the spool off a whirring noise, and that initial smoothness is gone. This bearing is behind the mag seal. What gives? The reel was not immersed, or abused in any way, just a couple hours of casting from a jetty.

It was not a mistake getting my 4000. Really light and powerful

I've had mine for a little over a year and it's the absolute best reel I've ever owned.I contacted daiwa and purchased a second spool.I run a heavier braid with flouro leader for surf fishing on a 12' ugly stick surf rod.On the second spool, I run a medium diawa samurai braid (smoothest, quietest braid on the market - no leader) for freshwater bass and catfish paired with a st. Croix premium rod.Smooth, durable, fast retrieve, MQ body, big handle is standard, sealed gears.... Just exceptional in every way.

The box came completely destroyed the reel is ok but not what i was expected.1-Not smooth2-handle have some playFor 320$ i was expecting to get a much better reel.

On my first outing with this reel i paired it up with a toadfish, 7'2" med/heavy 2 piece and headed to Rockport, Texas. I fished off a pier with a 2-4 inch mullet and very small weight. I caught several smaller fish but also caught a 45 pounds black drum and this pictured 39" redfish. The drag on this reel was very smooth during the fight with bigger fish; not sticky a bit. Casting was very smooth and line lay was perfect with 20 pound power pro braid. Compared to my Shimano Saragosa, I'd say this one looks much better, love the round knob more on the diawa and suprisingly cranking was just as smooth as my gosa. For bait casters I can take diawa or Shimano but for spinning reels, I've always been a Shimano guy. This reel just may change that thought.. it's smooth, looks good, casts great and the drag is perfect. If i had to ding it for something, it's the fact that diawa doesn't make them ready for owners to maintain. But from I've heard, with a quick rinse with fresh water after use in the salt, maintenance isn't an issue.. we'll see.. so far, highly recommended.
