Sangean PS-100 – Speakers (with Wire)

As described, it works very well. Under a pillow, sound is good.I'm sure it is not the cheapest on the market, but they have not cut corners in build quality.The friend who recommended this speaker said that a large national charity may be thinking about selling the speakers.

It's so fantastic to have a proper analog volume control, and the volume goes very low indeed. It's perfect for not bothering anyone while listening to music at bedtime or in the night, it works exactly how I'd hoped it would. A bit better for music than for spoken word, but very much good enough quality if you hit the right volume and thickness of pillow!However, I struggle to recommend this product. The manufacturer refuses to warranty items that they didn't themselves sell. While they're within their rights to do this, the nature of buying things on Amazon means life is much easier if the manufacturer will support their products. If the seller disappears, you have to invoke Amazon's A-Z guarantee, which is a slow and difficult process.

Not great sound quality, but not bad for the price.

A colleague suggested a pillow speaker because I like to listen to audiobooks as I fall asleep. I tried this one and was delighted, so much so that I ordered a second one to keep as a reserve. It’s thin and unobtrusive, about the same surface area as the palm of an adult’s hand. It comes with a very long cable, an excellent feature since it allows for lots of flexibility for the device you connect it to. There is a volume control/pre-amplifier. The pre-amp uses a AAA battery but the speaker works fine as is for the volume I want. Such a lovely solution, I set my Audible app to sleep automatically after 15 minutes. A wonderful device.

That little box and amp does exactly what I need. Am delighted with it.

It is not suitable for most pillows. If I had a hollow pillow I might be able to hear it.

Not loud enough

This appeared to be the best product I could find without spending a fortune, and it is really very good. The volume booster is enough to get the sound through the pillow, and the construction is sturdy. If you want something to enable you to listen to podcasts or audio-books without driving your bed partner crazy, then this would most likely be perfect for you.However, the laws of physics do pose a problem... clearly, listening through a pillow is going to remove all of the high frequency sound (which is why some people might not like this for music?). So a product such as this that is specifically designed for this purpose is going to concentrate on delivering the low frequency sound only. It turns out, therefore, that if you have tinnitus (where you are most likely to be trying to overcome mid or high frequency whistling tones), this isn't going to mask the sounds you are trying to hide. I'm keeping this, as it is a good product, and will be useful on occasion in the future. But for the main purpose that I was hoping to fulfil - distracting me from tinnitus whistles - I can't see that this or any other similar product will actually do the trick. (So, back to having my mobile near the side of the pillow set at as low a volume as I can!)
