Busbar - storytime
So, finally getting around to installing this, on a vintage 1985 Boss Gooseneck trailer , that originally came from Texas. Restoring it. Why? Because I’m a glutton for punishment and want to work wayyyy harder than I have to. Ha, jk. I just can appreciate the love , effort, and hard work that this trailer has done. I, once heard, that Papaw loaded a small dozer on it, when they were getting out of the excavating business, back in the mid to late 80s…and the blade, went through a rotted board going down the road! Punctured 2 tires, then the 3rd blew on that port side, as a casualty of “war” so to speak. So, this winch, was the boogar, that pulled that mighty KITTY KAT , up on a trailer it had no business being on. lol 😂 (now that I’m old, just wondering how much block and tackle, / snatch blocks etc. and rigging they had to do, to get it up on there. If I recall correctly, it wouldn’t start. )Anyhow, thnx for listening to story time. The motor, is chattering a bit, like one other reviewer mentioned. But, I do not know how far , the gear needs pressed on the shaft. One of my workers, took it off, without measuring first. So, might have to play with that a bit, or give Pierce a call, and see what they say. Other than that, I think it will do the job just fine, and hope to get many more tears (😭 I meant YEARS!) out of this vintage , Pierce worm 🐛 gear ⚙️, 12,000lb winch. It’s a great day to be alive and in America 🇺🇸 Folks. SFMF, from an old Marine.P.s. make yourself some custom “busbars “, and attach it directly from the motor to solenoid. This modification alone, vs. 1/0,2/0,3 etc from battery to the winch motor will yield amazing results. Remember, these are old school series wound motors, not permanent magnet. But, still have their advantages vs. new stuff. See pic attached. Get after it!

Works, but motor chattered when first installed.
Motor works, but motor chattered when first installed. After about an hour of actual run time with about 45 percent heavily loaded (10,000 pound winch pulling in excess of 2,000 pounds. Winch was nearly stalling.) run time. Possibly the brushes needed wore in. Contacted support with the problem. Never received a response. This motor has ball bearings for the armature. The original motor has sleeve bearings.
