Time and ordinary wear and tear took their toll on the collar stays I needed for my dress shirts to keep them looking sharp. Many broke with ordinary use. Many became brittle over time. These aren't cheap, thin, flimsy collar stays that fit only a handful of shirts with only specific types of collars. These are substantial plastic collar stays that fit well in all my dress shirts that require collar stays, whatever the style of collar. If you have a specific style of shirt and only need one size stay, maybe you should choose to buy only a specific length collar stay. The variety of this set meets my varied needs. One thing to note. These are PLASTIC, not metal. Although I can understand the appeal of the durability and rigidity of metal collar stays, I'd prefer to buy more collar stays when the plastic ones inevitably break for whatever reason than have a metal collar stay dig a hole in the fabric pocket in which it sits and ruin an otherwise good dress shirt. Food for thought.

The weight gives a better result
Much better than plastic, the additional weight and stiffness give you a really nice collar. Also, there is something more professional about a steel collar stay. Kinda' makes you feel better dressed. TIP: Store them away from moisture and with a desiccant.
