Turmeric as a valuable painkiller and anti-inflammatory food.
For me, Simply Organic has been a good, clean, reasonably priced source of turmeric and its associated curcumin. I use it primarly as a painkiller, but turmeric has a host of good attributes, with articles published that suggest it blocks metastatic spread of cancer, and, that turmeric and Vitamin D3 potentiate (strengthen) each other's effects. It is a potent anti-inflammatory food. As a painkiller, its effect is mild, but noticeable. If I feel achy for any reason, I take this perhaps four times a day. The painkiller effect doesn't last long, two hours or so, but I welcome its effect since I don't believe in using artificial painkillers. It has no side effects that I've heard of except that it may lower platelet counts in some individuals. I take eight shakes from this bottle in water enough to make a paste and ingest it, keeping it in my mouth as long as possible to allow sublingual absorption. Curcumin is not easy for the body to absorb. We use this extensively in food too, to flavor tomato sauces especially, but also to increase the amount of curcumin in curries, which usually already include some turmeric. This is a fine-ground product and although turmeric isn't my favorite flavor, the flavor of this product is very nice. We buy eight bottles at a time, usually give one away and the other seven last us four or five months. In the Indian subcontinent which eats a lot of turmeric, there are much lower rates of cancer than in Europe and America, in part because of the curcumin in turmeric. Read up on this valuable root vegetable.

An unexpected surprise!
This is an unexpected surprise! I got this for the heath benefits, but I didn't really expect it to taste good! I learned that: Turmeric is a spice that comes from the turmeric plant. It is commonly used in Asian food. You probably know turmeric as the main spice in curry. It has a warm, bitter taste and is frequently used to flavor or color curry powders, mustards, butters, and cheeses. But the root of turmeric is also used widely to make medicine. It contains a yellow-colored chemical called curcumin, which is often used to color foods and cosmetics.Turmeric is used for arthritis, heartburn (dyspepsia), joint pain, stomach pain, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, bypass surgery, hemorrhage, diarrhea, intestinal gas, stomach bloating, loss of appetite, jaundice, liver problems, Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gallbladder disorders, high cholesterol, a skin condition called lichen planus, skin inflammation from radiation treatment, and fatigue. It is also used for headaches, bronchitis, colds, lung infections, fibromyalgia, leprosy, fever, menstrual problems, itchy skin, recovery after surgery, and cancers. Other uses include depression, Alzheimer's disease, swelling in the middle layer of the eye (anterior uveitis), diabetes, water retention, worms, an autoimmune disease called systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), tuberculosis, urinary bladder inflammation, and kidney problems. Some people apply turmeric to the skin for pain, ringworm, sprains and swellings, bruising, leech bites, eye infections, acne, inflammatory skin conditions and skin sores, soreness inside of the mouth, infected wounds, and gum disease.Don't confuse turmeric with Javanese turmeric root (Curcuma zedoaria).Turmeric contains the chemical curcumin. Curcumin and other chemicals in turmeric might decrease swelling (inflammation). Because of this, turmeric might be beneficial for treating conditions that involve inflammation.I also learned that if you have it with black pepper, this amplifies the effects.
