Good popcorn at a good price

I've always loved popcorn. In the last couple years I lost 60 pounds and a huge part of that was eliminating ALL packaged/junk snacks unless it was a special occasion or holiday. That included microwave popcorn and the garbage that goes into it. So I bought a hot air popcorn popper and drizzle a little olive oil and shake it up with some garlic salt and that's become a nightly snack for me. So let's just say I go through A LOT of popcorn and have tried various brands. I was happy with a generic brand my local grocery store offered that actually popped up better than most brand names. But when they didn't stock it on my last shopping trip, I had to come online and find a decent deal on a bulk amount.This brand is delicious! It has a great aroma and popped up nice and golden and fluffy. Because I use an old-style air popper it's easy to see exactly how many kernels go unpopped so I counted: 7 unpopped kernels in the popper and 2 in the bowl. And that's out of a HUGE bowl that most normal people would share between three people except that I'm a piglet so I eat the entire bowl myself. Hey, I'm keeping the weight off, this is my one splurge! Anyway, that was great but what I personally liked even better was the lack of "hard small pieces" at the bottom of the bowl. There's always some that pops but stays small and hard, but I found I ate all the way down to just a couple of those little pieces, so it wasn't just that more popped, but also that it popped better. It has a terrific flavor too and I realize I've been missing out in the flavor department! I found myself "mmm-ing" all the way through the bowl, it is very tasty stuff. It's a little more expensive than what I was eating but I'd say it's worth the difference. I will absolutely order this again as long as it's offered with Prime shipping.

Sept 2019: Started my third bag (it takes a while for one person to go through a bag!) I don't know how anyone gets a poor pop from this popcorn. I discovered making kettle corn with my old StirCrazy - heat the oil up till it's good and hot, then pour in 1/2 c kernels that have been mixed with 1/4 c white sugar and 1 tsp popcorn salt). When it starts popping, shake it back and forth until it stops popping . .uncover IMMEDIATELY. Spray the base with hot water and the domed cover pops in the dishwasher on the the top rack. This kettle corn is totally awesome . . try it!Jan 2016: I just checked when I ordered this and it was August 2014! I have about three cups left and will certainly order again. The popcorn is excellent!!! I use an ancient StirCrazy popper - 1/2 -cup maxes out the bowl and has maybe 5 unpopped kernels at the bottom of it. It's tender and with a little butter and popcorn salt - I couldn't ask for more. It's not hulless,. but by golly it's almost so. I use a couple of empty 1/2 gal jars that I store the popcorn in and will continue to do so with my next order. I found that Orvilles may have a large popped kernel, but it is SO tough and chewy - this is just the way popcorn is supposed to be. . .!~~~

I order popcorn for my office where we have a kettle popper. We like to try different popcorns to see if there really is a difference and find which ones we like most. This is our favorite so far. The popcorn pops HUGE, and tastes great, with great texture.The price is VERY good, it is a very large bag, probably too big if you do not use it often, and the price per pound is excellent.We will definitely order this product again.Why not 5 stars?2 reasons. 1) The hulls are also quite large and get stuck in your teeth a lot. 2) There are a lot of duds. I have gotten to the point where I will only have 1-2 unpopped kernels with most popcorns (it's become a competition around the office) but I still get 10+ with this one... Still a great product.

This is Non GMO. I've been buying the organic popcorn offered here on Amazon using my Great Northern stainless stove top popper and it was always really great (use it with Paragon coconut popping oil and popcorn salt). But I found out that this GNP Original Popcorn is GMO FREE which is the main reason I was purchasing the organic. It costs much less and I just got it today so I popped my first batch. THIS IS EVEN BETTER! Best popcorn I've ever had. This 12.5 pound bag fills 7 quart-sized mason jars where I keep it so it will stay fresh to the end. (By the way, coconut oil is VERY good for you. In spite of what we've been told for years, coconut, palm, and palm kernel oil are considered MCT -- medium chained triglycerides -- which metabolize much differently from other fats, are readily available for nutrition, having a higher smoke point than vegetable oils, and help stave off food cravings.)

I was very disappointing with the quality of 2/3 bags. I make popcorn daily. It's a good, low fat snack... If it tastes good. When I first purchased Great Northern Popcorn, I was impressed with the price and quality. Plus, an attractive price for prime shipping left me feeling like I could not go wrong. However, my next two orders were horrible, seriously. The last 2 bags that I made the mistake of ordering were terrible. One bag had several holes, and the popcorn leaked all over the box. It also smelled bad, like mold or dirt.Despite the problem with the previous order, I made an attempt to purchase again because the price was right. The latest package from "discount tommy" (a seller that recently changed names to something else), smelled really bad and musty. Despite this, I decided to make a batch anyway; bad mistake, it tasted as bad as it smelled. I couldn't eat popcorn for a month because of how badly it tasted.I would not recommend this popcorn to anyone, and will not be buying it again. It's a shame, because it is priced right, but I would never gamble again with what to expect from this company; 2/3 chances of getting bad popcorn is not good odds. I have seen more recent reviews with the same complaint, so it is obviously a quality issue of the seller or manufacturer.
