MOOG ES3631 Steering Tie Rod End for Ford Escape

Moog makes quality stuff, so my expectations were high, and were met. Note that the tie rod end doesn't come with a new jam nut (what the end of the tie rod butts up against on the inner tie rod shaft to keep it from spinning in or out), so if you round that nut off while trying to remove the outer end you're screwed. You can always file the sides of the nut flat and use a smaller wrench, but just beware to use penetrating oil on the jam nut and let it sit a few minutes before wrenching it with a line wrench. Don't use an adjustable or open end wrench. Otherwise install was easy peasy and I love the grease fitting.When I torqued the nut securing the end to the spindle it didn't tighten initially and I was getting worried I was stretching the threads. But it did eventually get tight and I was able to torque it to the requisite 59 ft-lbs. It does take a small wrench to screw the grease fitting into the rod end, as they won't thread in by hand.......so be careful not to cross thread the fitting as you install. I changed both tie rods on my Escape in 35 minutes.Can't comment on durability, but like I said, Moog makes good stuff, so I'm not worried. But will report back if my expectations are not met.;O)

Yes they fit 2008-2012 escape hybrid. You must use compatible 16mm inner tie rods though. 14mm inner tie rods are not compatible with these outter tie rods. Check with caliper before ordering. Your innner tie rods threads are exposed under the vehicle. Can check without even jacking it up.

They seem slightly more robust than stock, 18 mm nut vs 17 etc, but my stock units, permanently sealed just came off at 140,000. They just started to make noise, really pretty tight considering. These come with "problem solver" Grease zerks which mean proper maintenance, they have to be checked and filled occasionally. Threading the zerk in, seems like there are no threads tapped, more like the zerk has to do the cutting. For me price is right, pretty easy replacement if you wrench on cars, even shade tree. I'm not giving 5 stars because of two reasons. First threads were much looser than stock. I mean you can feel a touch of play even when threaded on a ways. My stock units were tight until the last threads. The cotter pin included was minuscule! I swear I could have pulled it through the castellated nut. I used the old ones which seemed twice the diameter. Wondering if they even put grease into unit as many pumps required to fill up boot. It would be nice if they said it came dry or one should pump up until full. For now my creaking groaning steering has gone away. Fingers crossed for a long life similar to original parts.

Just make sure if you have not done these before watch a youtube video or two so you get all the basics and can visually see someone else doing these. Not hard but few minor points and tricks to help you out

Purchased them for an older vehicle. I wanted something that I could expect to hold up for a while. Moog has a very good reputation. That and the ability to lubricate them occasionally, convinced me to buy Moog.
