Excellent little microphone
The media could not be loaded. Bought this for my camping vlogs as I use my Samsung Galaxy S7 to record, but wanting better sound quality. Tested with and without the microphone plugged in. Now you won't notice much difference in volume, but you get a more rich sound and the dead cat cover ensures you don't get that naff wind distortion ruining your videos. If like me you want this for your phone, you'll need the SC4 adaptor cable too, otherwise it won't work on any smartphone including Apple phones. You'll also need a mount similar to the ones you get on a selfie stick but it has a cold shoe mount to attach the microphone, I've bought the Ulanzi one from Amazon and can recommend that too, sturdy metal. See video.Having now used this a few times in various conditions, the sound quality is excellent, even picked up my voice clearly on a windy boat trip. Would this be without this mic for vlogging now.

Great mic and works great with my HDR HC7 and FDR AX53
The media could not be loaded. I love this mic , great audio quality from such a reasonably priced microphone. Works well with my HC7 Sony camcorder and dramatically improved the sound quality. I have recently upgraded my camcorder to a FDR AX53 4K Sony camcorder So I have created a video with this review to show what the sound quality is like on the on board microphone on the camera and the rode videomic. An absolute MUST for recording video on your DSLR - makes an enormous difference.
A really effective mic for your DSLR. I have a Canon EOS 70D and was asked to film a musical concert given at a prominent venue.I have spent more than a thousand pounds on the camera and felt that a small investment in a microphone was in order. I was not wrong. The sound quality is revolutionised with this external microphone. The build in mic is a waste of time and a small investment pays enormous dividends if you are thinking of using your DSLR for video. It comes with a fluffy microphone cover and needs no batteries as it takes power from the camera (make sure the Mic jack is powered).Well worth the investment. If you’re using your DSLR for video, make this investment - you won’t be sorry!

Terrible Customer Service from Rode - AVOID
I'd like to know if the mic is any good, problem is it doesnt work....I tested it once or twice on the camera when I got it new (January) and it was fine. I took it to a shoot the other day and found it wouldn't turn on, so I was a bit annoyed as it's not been on and with it's claimed battery life shouldn't have died. But it may have lost charge when not in use. I charged it all night, lights were on and blinking etc. Next day... Dead. And this time it was needed for a shoot.Got in touch with Amazon who passed me on to Rode, guy on the phone was like a rabbit in the headlights calling back to a manager, then to get a warranty return, I had to go to the website and fill this digital form in (despite them going through all the process with Amazon, who know the order number and all the details etc...) then I had to send proof of warranty (which they already would have had from amazon), then once I do that they say not to return it until I'm sent an RMA whatever the f that is....Anyway later I get another email telling me to send it to them, with a lengthy list of things i mustnt get wrong when sending it, AND to provide proof of warranty. And before I send it back, I need to go to the website and register for the 10 year warranty on this particular product too..It's totally stupid, if you are remotely pro in video making don't go there with Rode, if this is their customer service you'll be without kit (that should work in the first place anyway) for weeks, waiting on emails and faffing about. If i had an option to get a refund I would and I'm sure as hell not going near Rode stuff again after this experience.

Cable cut in two.
Really fast postage. Great reviews. Lovely box. Cool bit of kit....However I will never buy a 'reconditioned' piece of equipment again lest it hasn't been 'reconditioned' at all as in this case. The wire that is supposed to connect the mic to the camera looks like it has been cut in two with a pair of scissors and repackaged. In a sealed bag and everything. A disgruntled worker maybe? Not sure. Anyhow, it's totally useless. (Pic 1)Added to this the bracket that is to hold the mic is totally twisted. I'm actually impressed how it has been done! It's like some sort of magic trick or optical illusion. Again, totally useless. (Pic 2)
