It works for charging a remote USB device
I ordered this so I could charge an ipad that's mounted in a vandal proof housing in a hallway at work. There is no power close to it's location. I'm not using it to send or receive data, just for charging. I had some old cat 5e cable in my garage so attached two RJ-45 ends to it and plugged it in to my phone's charger using the usb to ethernet adapters. The cat 5 is 70 feet long. When I plugged it into my Galaxy s7 phone the charging tone played and it displayed a message that said "charging will take longer than normal, please use the charger that came with the device", or something to that effect. The phone was already charged to 75%. Normal (Galaxy s7 fast charging) charging would only take 35 minutes, charging with the USB to ethernet adapter on 70' of cat 5 with the phone's original charger will take about 3 hours. I checked the voltage using a volt meter and it was reading 4.98 volts at the usb portion of the complete 70' connection. The ipad will not get used that much so the slow charging isn't an issue. The bottom line is that it works for charging using 70' of cat 5e. will have to try it on the ipad at work and see how it works out. Edit. I tried to get it to work with an ipad 6 using the 70' of ethernet cable but it wouldn't work. it just can't deliver enough power over that long of a distance using the stock charger that the ipad comes with, even using a 10' ethernet cable wouldn't allow it to charge. If I had a better power source it would probably work. there is a connection to add an additional power source at the end of the run but that's not something that will work with my application.

Works well for my use!
My use: I have a number of smart boards (of my own design) scattered around my house. I also have a small USB board which I use to re-program the flash in those boards. The USB board has a Silicon Graphics CP2102 USB-UART bridge and a small microprocessor. It is USB powered, but only uses about 10 ma. I am using this product with a 10 foot micro USB cable and a CAT6 cable up to 50 feet long to connect my computer in my study to which ever board I want to flash. I am powering my USB board through the cable with no additional power supply. It all works just fine.

Be causious.... this supports USB 1.1 and BELOW.
This extension device is very inexpensive for a reason. It only supports USB 1.0 & 1.1. Unfortunately, that fact is buried deep in the product description.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do
It's not rocket science, it's a USB extender. And it works. I wouldn't want to step on it, but where I have it under a desk it's safe enough.
