There's a reason this book has such a high overall rating!
So if you're anything like me, you are searching for a sleep solution for your precious little nugget because you're tired of getting screamed at for 40 minutes each night or having to wake up 4 times a night because baby wants to nurse back to sleep. And in your sleep-deprived haze you've clicked on what you hope will be a solution. Let me save you the trouble of searching any further when I say to you "BUY THIS BOOK!"The author writes candidly about what to expect in terms of sleep from birth through age 5. She tackles how to get your baby to put themselves to sleep, the best ways you can help them sleep better, napping, and common sleep problems. She reassures you as a stressed and overwhelmed new parent on how to do the best job and how to find the right method for you and your baby. I also found her writing to be hilarious as she includes little snippets/side comments that lighten the overall tone of what we're trying to accomplish and make it sound feasible. Now for the results (because that's what really matters right?!)...my 4 month old baby has been successfully putting himself to sleep for the past week...I bought the book a week ago so how's that for results? We do our bedtime routine, I lay him in his crib, and leave the room. Within 10 minutes, he is asleep. He still wakes once a night to have a quick bite to eat, but he's only 4mos so that's to be expected. But what I love about this book is that the author gives a game plan of how to decrease night wakings when you're ready. I've already started tackling naps as well and been very successful in having baby put himself to sleep and sleep longer! Also, to all the people saying this is another cry-it-out book, the author goes into great detail about how to help your baby to sleep with minimal crying. I'm not sure about you, but no matter what I did, there has always been some crying around naps/bedtime. So I'll take 10 minutes of baby whining because he doesn't want to go to sleep (even though he's tired) as opposed to a baby who MUST be rocked/bounced/nursed to sleep. The author does explain the cry-it-out method and how you can approach it to get the best success. Personally, I used a combination of her soothing techniques and saw great success with those! So to all you new parents (or struggling parents) looking for a sleep solution, let me repeat, BUY THIS BOOK! Happy reading and best of luck :)

Extremely helpful book
Considering that using this book drastically improved our baby’s sleep, and thus, our family’s quality of life, I thought a review was necessary. We went into our baby’s six month check-up with a baby who slept all right. He took a few good naps during the day. He slept pretty well at night. He did get up a few times every night to eat, but I didn’t think much about that. And he nursed to sleep every time he went down, which seemed to work fine, and surely he would just grow out of that as he stopped nursing. We happened to ask our pediatrician about the munchkin’s sleeping, and she said he should be fully capable of sleeping through the night. She recommended the Precious Little Sleep blog for more info on how to get munchkin to sleep better. After scouring the blog, I learned, to my horror, that munchkin not going to sleep independently not only was causing problems now (multiple night wakings and inconsistent naps), but would probably become a bigger problem in the future. And I was mystified by how to not put munchkin down by nursing him to sleep. So I ordered this book in hopes that we could find solutions. And the book was extremely helpful. We found it pretty easy to read (and entertaining), and the guidelines and tips were manageable. We also appreciated that a lot of the book gave options for the reader to pick what worked best for their family and their munchkin. The result: we now have a nine month old who sleeps well at night, waking up only once to eat (which we find very manageable), and typically takes good naps during the day. He also falls asleep independently. We are grateful for the help of this book.

Gentle sleep training worked for my baby
I used the advice in this book in the opposite direction and did with naps first, and it helped a lot of falling asleep independently. at 7 month, my child falls asleep independently day and night, and sleeps through the night. this book works! offers easy to do methods.
