Well worth the money
i bought this sander reconditioned because i didn't plan on using it very much. It arrived in excellent condition with all of the parts and with the operators manual. i researched a bunch of belt sanders that cost less than $100 and the biggest complaint was the automatic belt adjustment. This one works fairly well, although you'll still get some belt drift, especially if you apply any pressure. I don't really know if there is a complete solution for that though. The device is hefty, feels well-built, is comfortable to hold, and has good speed adjustment. At top speed it sanded down the wood quite rapidly.

Sensitive but Effective
The sander arrived quickly, showed signs of use. This machine was quite effective in sanding teak hard wood. However, quite sensitive, should be handled carefully as belt tends to sway if you hold sander while applying pressure to much unevenly to one side. Levelling sander or removing off work piece allows the belt to realign quickly. Dust collection system very good. Overall good machine for the price. Requires little or no pressure to sand effectively.

Surprised
I was surprised by how nice this belt sander is, esp for a re-burbished item. This was a steal for$81. It's very solid, good weight, nice grips, and very powerful. The automatic centering works perfectly and makes it worth buying this sander alone. The ergonomics make it very easy to maneuver around for rounding off edges or really working an area. Make sure to read the manual! It is critical that you don't put any weight on it...and you really don't want to anyway. This thing sands the wood as hard or gently as you want by working the grain and pulling the sander toward you. I sanded down a 12'x12' hardwood floor with 50-grit, 80-grit, and 120-grit. Then I sanded down the top and seats of a picnic table to smooth it out, remove spurs, and round off all the edges with 80-grit and 120-grit. Worked beautifully for all of it.

Great tool...
This is a great sander for home use. I am not a pro so I can't speak to that but this thing has a strong motor and gets the job done. I am new to belt sanders so this one wowed me with the power of the motor.

Great tool, great price.
The condition of the tool is like it is brand new. It runs quieter than I expected, which is great. It runs well; 50 grit removes a lot of material fast, 120 grit belt smooths things to a nice surface. Handles very nicely... I did go to Home Depot to get the feel of the various sanders they had and this was the one that seemed like it would be the most pleasant to use. Buying it reconditioned saved me $30 for the same quality.I am very happy with it.

Two bad ones.
First one only lasted 5 min, but the return was handled exceptionally well. Now on the 2nd. Sanding belt wanders all over the place while working. Have to stop sanding to let it return to center. Going to return this one as well. Can't believe Rigid would sell such a terrible product. But this is two bad ones in a row, and not going for the 3rd.

A good sander that does the job
I have no real complaints about the sander, other than the fact that it seems like you spend more time adjusting the tracking than you do sanding. It does a great job, don't get me wrong. I used it to sand some uneven boards on a truck bed, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with the tracking issues. Where it was level, the sanding belts seemed to track just fine. All in all, I would have to say it does just what it's supposed to do. Mine did have a few dings when I got it, but after all, it was reconditioned and not new.

Great Brand, Great Tool.
Ridgid is quickly becoming my favorite brand of power tool! The product I received had a few nicks as expected for a refurbished powertool but did not appear freshly used or dirty as others have reported. I understand that refurbished products cannot carry the lifetime warranty of brand new items, but the money saved and the limited warranty that comes with it is still pretty satisfying. Performance wise this product is hard to beat. It has a circular adapter that fits standard size shop type vacuum hoses and I have not had to adjust the automatic belt alignment. I only experienced belt slippage once and that was my fault due to pulling to hard perpindicular to the belt rotation... the sander quickly realligned the belt and continued on as normal. The adjustable speed is an added bonus and great for controlling the sanding rate. The slow start also helps you maintain control. At full power be careful not to let the sander get away from you, it packs a punch.
