Particularly gratifying for those who, like me, were corporals...and then were not
These caps in particular, and others like them, became interesting as MY WAR (Korea) faded from public memory and some of us had the impulse to remind people that there was such an event between WW2 and Vietnam. What many who weren't there would not know is that, serving with the Air Force, then, rising through brilliant, incredibly difficult, persistent effort, to the significant rank of Corporal did not insure keeping the stripes.........for, lo and behold, before the mid-fifties, both the Army and Air Force (by chance I served in both). stripped all enlisted man's ranking for those who were considered "helping personnel" not "fighting command personnel". Well, so it goes in War..........and in Peace as well. At any rate, as I approached my 90's (my current age) I happened on this kind of cap........and saw a chance to finally get those stripes back.
