Cannon Magnum Series Electric Downriggers

Having fished Cannon manual downriggers for decades, the MAG 5 ST downrigger is the bomb!Should have bought one a decade or more ago but the manual downriggers are just too easy for freshwater lakes when fishing in the 30-50’ ranges!But then again, no substitute for electric downriggers as they are just so easy to use and the ability to instantly retrieve the downrigger ball with just a push of a button, equipped with water line level stop, when a fish strikes is worth every extra penny! Especially when u r fishing larger species like king salmon or Lakers and u don’t want to risk a lost fish breaking off against your downrigger line.! It just makes clearing downrigger lines from the water so convenient and efficient when there’s a “fish on” that I wish I’d gone the electric route from the very beginning but “you don’t know what you don’t know” when first starting out!The MAG 5 ST ease of use, level stop, and build quality of Cannon downriggers is top shelf!Combine the MAG5 ST with the aftermarket telescopic boom, Cannon p/n 2210821, from Fish307, and you’ve basically got a MAG 10 STX electric downrigger for about $100 less! All the boom parts on the MAG 5 ST can be use to complete the telescopic boom installation so no need for additional parts just purchase the telescopic boom and u r good to go!Use the Blacks Marine adjustable release clip and you can fish braided and standard fishing line interchangeable and you’ve got the best of all worlds! Electric Downrigger works as expected. Easy to set up. Doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that higher grade Downrigger have but works good for the money. I fish the Great Lakes.

Can’t go wrong with Cannon!

The only problem I have with the purchase was to me the description was not very clear about the low profile mount being included , so I ordered one and did not need it,. It was included in the purchase.

Bought 2 magnum 10 STX and they are awesome. The 5 STX doesn't come with a swivel base that's why I opted for the 10 STX that come with a swivel base. The weight stops at the water line every time. Fast up and down, you can slow it by using the clutch but I didn't because it was perfect. I do recommend getting the retro-ease weight retriever or the scotty retriever because reaching over the side of the boat pulling in the 10lbs weight and keeping control of the weight while hooking your line on the clip get a little frustrating at times. After hand cranking the cannon mini for years it's nice to be able to hit the switch and not have one buff arm.

It's a cannon product, no need to say any more other than it's the only downrigging equipment I have ever owned.These new Mag 5's are incredible!

Such an improvement over my original Canon mag 10's. So fast lowering ball, and on retrieve having ball stop at surface is great. Expensive but well worth it. Long term investment, like a good graph. I replaced an on off switch, and the new one did the same thing, stopping when down a couple hundred feet. Then I realized it was a battery issue. The old story, "if you think education is expensive try ignorance". Ha,ha! Canon is outstanding, only down rigger to buy.*****
