Probably plastic, and no etching
When I received this, I was surprised at how light it was for something which was supposed to be glass. I have my doubts as to whether it is. Also, there was absolutely no etching anywhere to be seen. I set it on the base I ordered, which is very chintzy, btw, and even with the cube lit up, there was no etching to be seen. I'm very disappointed, as this was to be a birthday gift, and now I have nothing. I'm returning this and hoping that the replacement is the real thing.
