HOT, FAST!! Be careful!
I needed emergency heated water outdoors in frigid temps, and I needed it fast. I am very well pleased with this immersible heater but PLEASE BE CAREFUL! This unit gets hot REALLY FAST! In less than 30 seconds of being plugged in, it will burn your skin so please follow instructions. Do NOT let kids use this unit. It can heat a 5 gallon bucket of water from a skin of ice on top to 167 f (75C) in mere minutes. Then it shuts itself off. Because of how powerful this heater is, I can absolutely understand how you would not want to use it in any situation that you are not present. For my purposes, it worked flawlessly in sub-freezing weather. The quality seems good, but the instructions state that there is a red indicator light that lets you know it is on....um...no, there is no red light. The cord length is rather short, but the instructions clearly state that it is safe to use an extension cord---CAVEAT--- MAKE SURE YOUR EXTENSION CORD CAN HANDLE THE WATTAGE. And even then, that extension cord might get a little warm. Mine did. I appreciate the auto shut-off and the apparent durability. The bright yellow color is attractive as well. I think this unit is well worth the money. It certainly helped me on the farm.

Use some common sense and it will work as advertised
Most of the reviews about the device catching fire can be narrowed down to improper use. The heater needs to be FULLY submerged to operate. This includes the yellow cap and part of the cable (Plug stays high and dry). Will heat a 5 gallon bucket really quickly and can heat a hot tub or a kiddy pool with some time. Will not heat a pool. The thermometer is accurate, but the water can heat unevenly in a hot tub compared to a bucket so to get accurate readings, measure from many areas or mix up the hot tub. Worked fine with no over-heating from my extension cable rated for 1625W 125V 13Amp, but would still recommend connecting to a fused outlet. Do not leave unattended.

Was Mildy Electrocuted, edit* twice now!
*edit from previous review. Company was excellent and reached out to me to make things better. They shipped me a brand new unit for free and I said I would honestly review them better if all was well. Sorry folks, used in the hot tub several times with no issue but left it in there overnight last week and reached in to grab my filter to change it and got a nice jolt of 120v up my arm. The new one, like the other one, apparently cannot be used at high temp (its own setting) without shorting out or losing it's seal, not sure which one but it is an open current right in the water. I had a temp monitor in there to track the temp and it reached close to 130 degrees overnight in a 5 person inflatable tub. I know, I should not have left it on overnight but if you leave your pool accessories on overnight you don't usually worry about them electrocuting you the next day when you take a dip.I do not say this lightly, do not use this with humans or animals in or in contact with the water, you can be electrocuted. May not kill you but I am not sure who wants to find out. I certainly would not want to be chest deep in the water and have it zap me.Original review below------I have been using this device for a couple weeks to enhance the temp of an outdoor inflatable hot tub. I would run this for many hours at a time. The other day when I was closing up the tub, I plugged the unit in and I was replacing the cover when I touched the water and felt a jolt. I was barefoot at the time but there should not be an open current from the unit in the tub. It was not a deadly jolt so I wanted to ensure this was what was doing it and I unplugged the unit and touched the water, no issue. I carefully plugged the unit back in and touched the water again, no doubt, there was current running though it. Not enough to kill me but not gonna experiment and find out. It is being returned and I will not get the same brand again. For anyone reading this that might use this for a tub or kiddie pool, do NOT take the chance of having your kids, pets, or livestock near the water when this is plugged in. Mine might be a single bad unit but I doubt anyone reading this wants to find out there hard way that I am not alone.

Great for Showers While Camping
We use this to heat water for showers while camping. Heats 5 gallons of water to hotter than necessary in 5-10 minutes. The thermostat it comes with is junk though. Overall it works great.

In the grand scheme of things, this item does the job!
Tried it out on a 5 gallon bucket and it took about 19 minutes and 7 seconds to get to 120° (still pretty good speed for a portable). Starting temp was 68.4°I then tried it in our bathtub and filled up the tub about halfway and the water temperature was 70°It took 1 hour and 12 minutes to reach 80° (still pretty good especially since our water heater went out on us).Of course, make sure that the device is completely submerged in the water before plugging it in!Pros:-Portable and convenient-Item cools off pretty quickly after useCons:-The cord can get a little warm

Hot cord
I used this the first time with a power surge protector extension cord. It kept shutting off at the extension cord. I switched to a regular extension cord and it worked great. I'm presuming the current was too strong and activated the power surge protector... so use a regular extension cord. Also, as the warning packet says, the extension cord gets hot near the plug in outlet. I wouldn't ever leave this plugged in unattended...in case it overheated and caused a fire. Just be cautious.

Works, just much slower than advertised
Needed a quick solution for a shower when our water heaters failed. Used in combination with a portable shower for a temporary fix. Heats water fine, but it’s about 20 min for a decently warm shower before it was ready in a 4 gallon container from cold tap water.

Great way to have a hot shower while out camping!
I have been using this for a few weeks now. It uses alot of electricity, but it allows us to heat water to have a hot shower. I do wish there was some sort of thermostat on it, but it is cheap enough, we just unplug it when the water gets hot enough. It heats the water quickly. We heat about 10 gallons, and it takes about 20-30 mins.
