I train at home and while the family is still asleep and I love these because they are super-quiet, easy to operate, and effective. They grip tightly, fully securing the plates, and not once have I worried, or witnessed, any slippage. I suppose, for completeness, I should add that I only use them on bars, which tend to be horizontal on all the lifts, making slippage unlikely, even without the collars. Because I train alone however I use the collars in case I make a mistake or there is an accident, like mis-racking the bar or something (most likely me!) fails. The worry is that the bar then tilts sufficiently before I can compensate that a plate might slip off, and the collars help to minimise this. I can also imagine that possibly things might be a little different if you happen to use heavily loaded 2" dumbbells which might be held more vertically at some point of the lift (think hammer curls) such that all the weight of the bottom-most loaded plates is transferred from the dumbbell to the collar, but the grip of these collars is exceptional and I suspect that most people using dumbbells for these sorts of exercises will be using an amount of weight that these collars could hold. They are nearly all plastic which is why I gave the 4 stars and not 5 for sturdiness, but they feel robust enough and while I would have preferred a metal option (a bit "old-school" that way), that would have hiked up the price I'm sure and I would probable lose a bit of it's quietness. 4 stars for ease of use - only because I just find the additional locking tab a bit counterintuitive, and I'm not absolutely convinced it's necessary, but now I'm just being a bit trivial. Get a pair - they're a nice addition to a home gym, quick and quiet, and I'd absolutely recommend.

This is the perfect addition to my gym bag. So much easier to use than the standard spring clips that most gyms have. Let’s face it they are almost always mangled and difficult to put on / take off. These clips, while plastic, are very sturdy, grip the bar well and have shown no signs of slippage in around 10 sessions. Not had the issues mentioned in other reviews, the black clip bit seems flexible enough to withstand the use it needs, I can see that if you’re in the zone and forget it’s plastic you could force it and snap the plastic, but you’d have to give it some welly to get that much pressure on it. For me the mechanism is simple to use, opens easily when not on bar, slides perfectly into position and very obvious when it’s locked on. Removing is simple, though can result in the odd scraped knuckle as it sits close to the plates, but thumb push and finger lift on either side of the clip and off it pops to be slide off bar. Takes a good chunk of time off the loading / unloading process and you always get to the plate, no more giving up halfway in with a mangled spring and getting unbalanced midway through a set.

Strong collars so far from using...had up to 50kg on each side and no movement.

Bought these in yellow about a year and a half a go and use these almost daily. So glad I bought these as my bar came with the standard spring loaded clips and these are so much better and well worth the money (£10 I think when I got them). They had a nice collection of colours, think it was blue, yellow and red - possibly more but I just remember those 3. Obviously they come as a pair (seen adverts elsewhere where they don't) and are fantastic quality. These clips are really sturdy, they don't budge at all (tested vertically with 100kg of plates trying to budge it) when on the bar and locked, but when unlocked open up fairly wide to allow them to slip on and off with great ease. The lock is nice and tight and easy to use (not too stiff or calibrated wrong so you struggle to do them up). Overall a fantastic set of clips, great quality and would very highly recommend. I chose the yellow as they're nice and vibrant and they look good on a black bar.
