Eventually worked as it should
Having gone down every avenue to stop the furry monsters doing their business in my borders, I thought I'd take a dive at the pestbye cat scarer. After reading mixed reviews about the success and quality of the product, 20 quid seemed like a worthwhile gamble. So, quality at first was what I expected for the price. It's like a cheap child's toy to be honest and doesn't really feel up to the task. The instructions are quite blunt and simple and as some reviews have mentioned, it leaked at every joint giving the impression it's a faulty product. If I had the same mindset and had the time to send this back, I would, but I'm one to try and sort the problems if I can. A quick trip to a plumbers shop to buy some PTFE tape and I had taped every thread before fixing together. No leaks, I was happy and tried to find the best possible position. Don't expect this to cover a large area and don't expect this to fire a long distance. It will target a specific point in a short radius. The sensor is temperamental if placed behind plants as it will pick up branches moving about. It needs a completely clear view. After about 10 mins of adjusting the position and sensor, it was ready to go. I buried the hose under the bark in my border leading up to a splitter attached to my garden tap so I could shut the water off easily and leave another connection open if needed. I only have this on overnight as no cats enter our garden during the day because of our noisy kids. I'm pleased to report that it really does work. I'm not sure how long it will last but I hope it sees us out until the winter at least. If that's the case then I'll buy another. This item will definitely need to be taken down in the colder months as the plastic pretty much tells you itself it will crack in freezing conditions. I'm trying to be as honest and informative as possible because reviews can make you hesitate. So if you buy this, be prepared for leaks straight away. It just needs a bit of help at the joints to tighten them up a bit like PTFE tape. Any DIY store sells it. Also, the extension bar is hopeless as the pestbye just wobbles all over the place being top heavy. Just disregard it and stick to the lower spike only. I purchased a new hose from homebase which came with its own hose connectors which I used instead of the ones supplied as they are not a very good fit. So in a nutshell, it won't run spot on out the box. You will need to improve it to get it going properly. But they are very cheap improvements. Long winded review but hope it helps someone.Purchased 31st May 2019, update 25 April 2020.So, almost one year on and used every day bar a few weeks because of frost, I'm starting to have an issue. The water isn't jetting out as much as it used to. I've cleared the limescale out and given it a general clean and still the same thing. If I can't get this going again as before, I will buy another. Great value for money.Another update 6th June 2020Cat scarer still going strong. Had a blockage in the hose where the water was just sitting In the hose causing a build up of muck. Just jetted water through the hose and reconnected. This is standing the test of time. Still impressed.

Effective Cat Deterrent- But Could Use Design Improvements
A year ago, I was at my wit’s end with my neighbour's cat using my vegetable planter as a litter box. After other deterrents like scent-based and ultrasonic repellents had failed, I decided to give the PestBye Jet Spray Repellent a shot.Pros:High Effectiveness: From its first deployment, the effectiveness of this device was clear. One spray was all it took to ensure the cat has steered clear of my garden ever since.Battery Efficiency: The device has been operating on the original batteries for over a year without a need for replacement, even after spending several months idle in my shed.Ease of Use: It is very straightforward to operate as long as you have an outdoor tap (that doesn't leak, as you'll need to leave it on 24/7), which is ideal for anyone needing a quick and easy solution to pest issues.Cons:Build Quality: The overall construction of the device feels somewhat flimsy, which raises concerns about its durability over time.Adjustment Difficulty: The settings for sensitivity and range are tricky to adjust, often requiring a bit of guesswork. A more intuitive design would greatly enhance user experience by providing more accurate control. Conclusion:Despite its few drawbacks, the PestBye® Jet Spray Repellent has excelled at its primary function—keeping unwanted animals away from my garden. It has proved to be a reliable tool where other methods have failed. While it may not be the most durable option on the market, for anyone dealing with persistent animal intrusions, this product is certainly worth considering for its effectiveness and ease of use.

Not worth the money
The one star given is for the fact when this did work it at least watered the lawn. Says the sensor adjusts from 1metre to 10 metres????? I had it set at 1metre and every time a car went up or down the street 15 metres away the thing would go off. Lost count of how often it did this but we are on metered water, arghhh. As for going off when a cat got near, not a hope. Last night a cat messed right in the middle of the lawn less than a metre from the unit. It shouldn’t even had chance to get itself comfortable let alone time to do its business. Also when it do go off it didn’t’t always rotate as it should. Sometimes it would move a few inches and then just stayed spraying the one spot.As for the directions, mmmm, so helpful, not. It took playing around with for 30-45 minutes when first setting up to get to grips with the best way to set it up. Must’ve wasted several gallons of water in the process. Nearly returned then and there but decided to persevere. Also to try and stop it picking up passing cars tried putting it in the ground at a 70degree angle and that didn’t even work.Wouldn’t waste your time, water or money.

So frustrating
I’ve bought two of these over the course of the last year. The first one had pretty “ok” build quality. Most of the joints leaked but in the end with various homemade solutions it became a useful tool and certainly did a decent job for a while before the sensor didn’t work any more. The second one is just hopeless. Water pours out of every connection, no matter what I try to do to fix it. A good product idea that just really doesn’t have any build quality. A real shame.

Very good product
Works brilliantly, had a cat pooping on our fake grass, same spot many times, this took one night to sort it out. We had many cats visiting and now we see every few and occasionally one tests it out but they always end up second best. Also worth the laughs when your family forget it’s there and it gets them too! No issues at all with this product and highly recommend.
