Homework made easy!
We needed to build a Viking ship for “family homework”. As a family we enjoyed making this model and it looked good when we had finished. I recommend using clothes pegs to hold it together whilst the glue dries.

Nice model, but bit fiddly for an 8 year old
Good activity for my son to complete as part of his school homework, but a little bit fiddly for him (he's 8 years old).

doesn't live up to its packaging.
Unfortunately, this product does not live up to its glossy package. It is not a model for children to make. The kit is comprised of a number of sheets of card but this is not simply printed card but appears to be laminated so that cutting and folding become fiddly. Construction requires tiny slots/holes to be cut in the card - a task that requires a modelling knife or scalpel and a very steady hand. The instructions are not always clear and the (frustratingly small) line illustrations are confusing so that much time is spent deciphering them. They also vary in complexity from, 'score, fold in half and glue', to instructions involving 'starboard spar rigging cleats'! In addition, the Viking figures have little detail and the press-outs are rather crudely formed so that all of the figures have an outline of surplus card whereas the lines of the vessel itself are 'clean' and more finely detailed. In fairness to the BMP, the kit is reasonably cheap but those seeking a model to keep and/or display might wish to consider spending more on a non-paper construction kit.

Great priced book. Will be shopping here again. (Bought for 8 year old and must admit we found it a little fiddly.)

An enjoyable evening
I enjoyed building this model as part of a display for school. The kit is well printed on good quality card and the pieces are well cut so that they mainly pop out easily. Some parts need a modelling knife to cut them free and there are some slots to cut. The instructions are mainly clear, although the pictures are not always helpful and the text not always as good as it could be. The fixing of the sail is unclear but I think I fitted it correctly. I gave up on a component called the beitiass as I couldn't find any pictures or information on Google and even full-size replica Viking ships seem to work fine without it. I used thread to rig mine as suggested in the instructions, but I tied the 'ropes' to small card loops, which I made from spare card from the kit.
