Lakmé (Paris 2022)

Magnifique
Forbidden love, a recurring theme in literature and opera, is always an avenue for great music, and Delibes’ Lakme doesn’t disappoint. The setting of the opera is British India which serves two purposes, caricature the English and give some taste of orientalism so in vogue at the end of the 19th century France. This production has two strong points, the first is Sabine Devieilhe as Lakme. Her singing is so beautiful. The most loved arias, the Flower Duet and the Bell Song are worth repeat listening. The second point is the mise-en-scene is minimalist and very effective. In fact, they include very little of what could be expected from the Opera’s plot. For example, in the Flower Duet there is no flower to be seen, but the hints are there so it is the watcher’s imagination task to see them. For that, it is incredibly well done. The lighting is very effective, and it is effective in video recording also. Overall, the production is engaging, symbolic and avoids the pitfalls of bringing reality to the stage. The cast is very good. The sound and video recordings are very good. Recommended

Bon produit mais livraison détestable
Produit conforme à mon attente et arrivé en bon état malgré le dépôt surprenant du livreur qui a jeté le colis dans mon jardin... Donc une livraison surprenante et scandaleuse mais semble-t-il pas isolée.

A delight
Sabine Devieilhe is one of most important singers today. Everything she does is worth a listen.

Petite déception
Quelques silences très cours qui entachent une interprétation exceptionnelle de l’opéra de Delibes. Cordialement, Pierre Couble
