Needed something to hold the grout - this worked perfectly

Fills the gap nice and tight!
The gap I needed to fill was too big for calk. This backer rod was just slightly larger than the gap thus creating a compression. Worked perfectly!

Well Made Rod Foam Filler
If you are doing repairs where there are cracks, openings, areas that need to be filled with caulking or plaster or cement, sometimes it helps to fill more of the space with something like this foam material, which allows you not to not to use too much caulk or other material to cover the fault.I have found this material to really make things much easier when fixing larger faults. By pushing this flexible foam into a space and filling it, I had to use less caulking to cover the repair and only needed to lay on one layer to effect a reasonably good fix. If I hadn't used this foam rod, it would have needed a lot more caulk material and numerous applications and more time to repair this problem. This is great material...firm but flexible and great for repairs.

It works on cars.
Versatile product that I have used for finishing small gaps on the exterior of my car. The aftermarket body kit with extended fenders tends to torque away from the body when the car is lowered on air ride. So we have caulked the small gap with 1/8” to protect the double sided tape from water during cleaning and the elements.
