Upgraded the hanging brackets on a heavy mirror
We bought a mirror off Amazon that is solid, beautiful and HEAVY!Unfortunately the wall I was mounting it on had the stud dead center, instructions say NOT to run a wire from the two hanging brackets so I ordered a French cleat, cut it down to 23 1/2” inches (was a 30” French cleat), drilled a few holes and mounted it using all of the same screws the original brackets the mirror brackets used. Was able to use two construction screws near the center to mount the half of the cleat to the stud in the wall and drywall anchors to support the ends. Now this mirror isn’t going anywhere. Overkill? Maybe. It’s going to hanging over a very expensive pedestal sink in a powder room and I’m not taking any chances.

Worked great
This solved hanging a large mirrored jewelry cabinet on my plaster and homasote wall (yes, in 1930 they put up walls of homasote in my house, covered them with a ton of plaster, and it's a nightmare). I wasn't ever going to risk using the cabinet's keyhole hooks in drywall anchors. My studs can also be all over the place, but the 18 inch one did hit two studs in the far holes. I'm very happy this worked so well.

Excellent product, an elegant solution to your hanging needs.
I've bought several of these, and they're a smart and effective solution for hanging things (I actually hung a nightstand from Ikea that was intended for the floor attached to a bed). They are surprisingly strong and simple to install. They're also great for paintings, frames, etc.

Works as stated and easy to install!
I got this to hang a mirror that was about 20lbs. My mirror was about 21" wide so it didn't line up with at least 2 studs in my wall. This French cleat system allowed me to be able to attach the mirror to at least 2 studs so I don't have to worry about it falling off my wall. Each hole is about 1" in apart which works perfectly. I used construction adhesive to attach a piece of wood on the back of my mirror then screwed the French cleat to the wood. Overall, feels very sturdy and expect it to hold up.

Mirror is back on the wall!
I used this to re-hang a mirror on our wall the mirror was not secured with a stud and the holes were getting loose. This allowed us to re-hang using an off center stud plus the already drilled holes in the plaster
