We still need DVD, CD and Blu-Ray types of drives.
With the disappearance of CD and DVD type of media, they don't realize the need for this type of drive still exists. we all have lots of this media that can last s long time. We still need these drives to access it. This unit works very well.

Major Desing Flaw
Other than having a major design flaw this unit works perfectly. The design flaw as described below could potentially drain your laptop battery completely in 4-5 days. After connecting the new DVD drive to my HP Laptop, I tested the USB A and C connections which both worked as expected. Then the SD card slot which also worked as expected, finally burning a Light scribe image with no problems. Since my laptop as most has a shortage of USB A connections, I use a USB hub on one of the inputs to allow multiple device access such as my backup drive and left this DVD drive connected to my USB C input. I also connected the external power cable into my USB hub as a power source if needed. Now the problem! After powering down everything I went to bed and noticed blue lights on my bedroom ceiling. I got up and saw that the USB port lights on the hub were on which should have been off. I removed the exterior power connection to the DVD drive, and they turned off.The next day after some testing I found that this external DVD drive is drawing power from my laptop battery even when everything is powered off. I charged my battery to 100%, left the DVD drive connected overnight and in the morning my laptop battery was 79%. Without the DVD drive connected there is no loss of battery overnight and the battery remains at 100%. Then I tried the same test with the external power cable connected and the next morning my laptop battery was 73% which means the DVD drive was sending power to my USB hub using the laptop battery.I was going to return the unit due to the battery drain but decided it worked well enough to keep it and just disconnect the DVD drive when not using it.I hope the designers take notice as no external unit should be able to drain your laptop battery when your system is powered off.
