By Oder of Judge Grammar
My kids (7 years old & 6 years old) love this book. I read it aloud to them. They now play Grammar-Land during their play time. (Amusing.) Each chapter has an assignment. I found printable copies of these assignments online for free. (Just search "Grammland Worksheets".) They are just copies of the assignments in the book. Some of them are a little difficult for my 6 year old, but my 7 year old seems to understand them well. (I just help my 6 year old with them because he likes doing them, he simply cannot complete them independently.) I highly recommend this book for any child struggling with grammar, needing a refresher course in grammar, or needing a primary grammar study.

GRAMMAR for those who find it PAINFUL - great story - the way education should be!
Being a journalism major in college, I found Grammar to be painful. I disliked it at all grades. This book however is a GEM! I look forward to reading the story, which is exceptionally well written, to my boys ages 11 and 14. This is going to serve as our homeschool language arts Grammar. They will actually listen, while we read aloud the story. Then the short exercise at the end and voila - they have it!I am an avid reader, and love literature. Grammar - not so much! But this book changes everything.

Finding this treasure makes me miss the time before education dumbed down instead of challenging kids
My kids now remember parts of speech and grammar rule s. This story gives the parts of speech personalities and makes basic grammar a little more interesting, Finding this treasure makes me miss the time before education dumbed down instead of challenging kids.

Great Grammar Book
I used this book with my homeschooled 4th grader. It was a great success! The book is intelligent, educational, and witty. Grammar-Land introduces us to the parts of speech in an imaginative way, using rich language and never talking down to the children. My only complaint is that the characters were all male. I am not complaining in the sense that it is sexist, just that it would have been a little more interesting. Still a great book, though.

AVOID! Tiny Print, No Illustrations
I bought this book on a friend's recommendation. She showed me her copy and it was a reproduction of the old-time book. The font was clear, big and easy-to-read, and the illustrations were clever. This edition is just a poor joke. The font is too tiny to be attractive either to adults or children, and none of the illustrations in the original are included.

Love this book
What a fun, gentle way of studying grammar! The premise for the book is that the parts of speech must go before Judge Grammar in Grammar-Land ensuring they are used appropriately. This book is a great way to teach grammar to young children and a great and gentle refresher for older children having a bit of trouble figure out the various parts of speech. I am dyslexic and suspect at least one of my children may be and this book provides a really neat narrative on the parts of speech that may be hard to "see" in regular sentence diagramming for dyslexic individuals. This book was originally published in 1877, so it is full of rich language and you can feel good about using it in the classroom, home, or home school program.

Fun and educational
I just read this to my eight year old son and he loved it! We both learned so much about the English language in the process. I love how it teaches about grammar in such a fun way. At the end of each chapter there is a little practice exercise that you can do. Great book!

You get what you pay for in terms of quality
They warn you that for the price they are selling it for they pretty much scanned documents and didn't bother to have someone go over it and correct the typo's. Not only typos, but also words that are completely wrong and you need to guess what they heck they are supposed to be as the scanner didn't pick up on the correct letter (maybe two "t's" become an "H" when scanned). I would have done the editing for free, but hey, no one bothered to give me a call. With that said, a copy of this book without all these issues is definitely worth looking into. My daughters loved the story and if you do an online search for "Charlotte Mason study of Grammar-land" you will find a free download to use as a teaching reference.
