Q: Will this help for welding steel?

I honestly don't know if it will work in welding, you would think it would help with the ability to move the filler metal along the weld..its great for the melting of silver and gold.

Q: When you glaze the crucible do you use just the powder or do you make a paste? And how do you make the paste ?

Add into crucible and melt. Take tongs and roll around all over sides and bottom. Dump out excess
