Nice looking, decent value
It's rare to find a Japanese Tansu step-cabinet for under a thousand dollars, so this caught my eye. Pros: - looks nice and unique - fairly sturdy - lots of storage Cons: - This isn't solid hardwood construction, some panels are thin, not sure if it's particle board or not. - The construction is a bit shoddy. One door didn't close and keeps popping back out. One of the cabinet doors have the handles installed at different heights. - the back of the unit is missing a piece of wood which presumably was done to cut costs on the non-visible side. It makes the unit less stable and easier to damage while moving. - the pre-drilled holes for installation of the top piece (it comes in two pieces) aren't drilled well. - it doesn't have two-sided entry like the traditional japanese furniture does, so make sure you can face it the direction in the picture. Summary: I'm reasonably happy with it, but the construction isn't great. Too bad they don't put a bit more pride in their workmanship and materials.
