Amazing product!
My job here in Hawaii involves being outdoors quite a bit, which means one thing: you're gonna get rained on. Wear waterproof shoes and they'll eventually fill up as the rain water pours down your legs. I've actually walked away from a workday with trench-foot before! Sure, you could wear waterproof boots, a heavy rain jacket, and rain pants, but all that'll do is make you rain sweat inside them, so you end up where you started. I did a lot of research before buying these. Trail runners simply aren't durable enough for the kind of work I do. So at first I focused on military jungle boots as I was wanting something that could be dual work/hike wear. Then I found these. The biggest selling point for me was the dual drainage vents on each shoe. Yes, your feet get wet, and as long as it's raining they stay wet. But they stay a lot LESS wet because the excess water quickly drains off. That's the whole point of a tropical shoe. I love the high durability materials used on these. As soon as you take them out of the box you can feel that these were made well. I love their low profile, everyday look. I used to wear Converse all the time. So big plus there. The biggest minus for me is that this style of shoe simply does not provide a lot of arch support, which my high arches need. The waterproof insoles, however, are removable. Thus, in their place are Currex High-arch Hiking Insoles. I wore them with the waterproof insoles a couple times, and they are much more comfortable than your old Chucks. They do get quite warm, however. I still carry them with me to switch out on especially rainy days as other insoles tend to retain water. Also, I've been wearing them for about a month now and I'm noticing the tread around the ball of my feet is starting to wear away. I'm guessing that's because these were designed for soil, not concrete. Still, it is a disappointment. I'm just hoping it takes a long time to wear away to the point that I can't use them anymore. I hope this is an issue Altama addresses moving forward, as durability is one of the main selling points for me on these. Overall, I give these five stars as they meet my needs so perfectly. I haven't gone hiking with them yet, but I'm planning on trying it. If they work well for me there, then I found me a perfect all-around everyday shoe. The next step for Altama should be to provide these in more than just military colors. I think there would be a strong market for these with people looking for a durable everyday shoe. I also know that a lot of military people would enjoy wearing a military "branded" shoe in their off time

Great shoes and boots.
Fast delivery. Ordering mids in multicam tomorrow from same vendor. I wear a size 12….the lows are a good fit. For the mids I will size up to 13 for a better fit with Fox River socks. I use them for scuba and just about everything else: range, workouts and even semi casual wear. This is my 4th pair.

Great shoes. Edited review. On my second pair.
First off, shoe sizes can be really confusing. I usually wear a 9.5 in Salomons, Merrill’s, Ariats, Steve Maddens, and Rockports. Some brand I have to up to a 10.5 though so go figure. That said, I went with a 10 in these and they fit perfect. They’re not overly aggressive in the tread which is a good thing for this shoe. It’s been ages since I wore anything like these so I notice now that my heel sits further down making me feel more flat footed. They feel very durable, as they should considering the materials used. The toe is pliable. The laces feel like a good quality and don’t slip after being tied. I bought these more so for everyday casual wear, day at the range, etc., but I can imagine they’d make a good exercise shoe also. I do wish they offered them in more colors. Like a dark grey. The best thing for me is they came in two days. I recently ordered from another high end “tactical” company that a lot of fan boys like. That particular company took 2 weeks to get an in stock item shipped to me. And when I tried to cancel they refused to because “the ball had already started rolling.” So a big thanks to this seller. I’ll be buying more in the future. Edit: Just bought my second pair and apparently someone upstairs reads the reviews because I was able to get these in grey. Absolutely love the shoe. The only reason I’m on my second pair is because they’re not fire proof.... shit happens though. 🤙🏻

"FIT" The Big Question
There is a resounding number of reviews that advise to go up a size. And there are far fewer that stated the shoe length was correct, but the design is narrow. I recall taking the first tip a long time ago with Chucks, and regretted it because an over-length shoe just looks goofy. Chucks are narrow, and that's just a fact of life... Fortunately for Altama's, there *IS* a wide option. I wear Size-8 and usually select wide whenever given the option. This is what I found upon trying on these Altama Maritime lowcut's in 8-wide for the very first time : Initially they were snug, and it seemed like I could scratch the front of the shoe with my big toe. HOWEVER... after lacing them up and walking around inside while doing household tasks for less than 10 minutes revealed that they would in fact be perfectly fine in terms of fit. Since that initial try-on, I've had them on and off several more times just wearing around the house, and the comfort just gets better as they break in. I suppose allowing the insole to "bed" into the shoe under the wearer's weight, and giving the material a chance to flex and form to my foot for just a short moment was all it took. The length is fine, and my initial sensation of being able to scratch the front of the shoe with my big toe is no more... I suppose as the heel of insole "bedded" into the shoe under my weight, it allowed my foot to sit properly with my heel butted further back into the shoe, thus allowing more room up front. Other observations : - The mesh type inner material appears to be the same stuff as you might find on the inner strap of a backpack to allow for "breath-ability"... IMO, this material is famous for snagging, and piling when it encounters anything other than the softest materials... not sure how it will hold up in this application (inside the shoe) but I hope it does well, because I really do like this shoe so far. - The back strap Loop does not lend to the looks of this shoe.... I think it would be a better use of the material if it folded INTO inner surface of the heel for more abrasion-wear durability from putting the shoe on & taking off... I find alot of my shoes tend to break down at this point, so reinforced design might be practical because no matter how much we take care of our new shoes, as they become our favorite shoes, we will at some point just step into them and sort of wiggle the heel into place out of shear laziness.... And this unfortunately causes a great deal of wear at the inner heal. - The Insole is very tacky... so you will not be "slipping" into these shoes unless you apply some sort of lubricant... It's more like using your toes to sort of pull your feet deeper into the shoe like a hermit crab pulls itself around, as you pull the heel over. Either that, or suffer severely stretched socks which is uncomfortable for the toes. I am NOT a navy seal, and I will not be swimming in these... I'm in this for the "Chucks" look. So I fully understand that the tacky soles are probably required for aquatic purposes... Be that as it may, I'll be looking for some more traditional insoles that will let me slip my favorite sneakers on and off without pulling the hell out of my socks... - Recalling seeing a review (with pics) mentioning too much glue or something... I disagree and was looking for the opposite, by that I mean insufficient glue. This shoe is trying to solve the SINGLE WORST SCREW-UP IN THE DESIGN OF CHUCKS. That being the separation of the band that goes around the shoe. So please, extra glue on mine thank you very much. I'll accept that functional insurance over small cosmetic imperfections any day... Whether these hold up as "correctly" designed chucks has yet to be seen...

Well made, good value.
Only had these a week but already happy with the purchase. Bought them to wear while doing home improvements. Very well made. A little heavier duty than Converse Chuck Taylors, but in a good way. The water vents also help keep my feet from swimming in sweat during hot weather. My foot size is 10.5 EEEE. Weird, I know, but dems my feets. Took a chance on 11.5W and feels good. Slightly snug but still comfortable. I wouldn't be able to wear with thick winter socks but I got these for hot weather work anyway so it all works out well. I highly recommend. Plus they look cool AF.

Modded - very comfy shoes - go one size up
i bought the black version. I have been using the shoe for 2 months now and I have to say these shoes are very comfortable and durable. The shoe fabric by nature does not cling to dirt and easily brushed off. A real low maintenance shoe for multi purpose use. I use these shoe for office work (business casual), shipyard work, casual shoes, and leisure basketball an all around performer! This has now become my go to travel shoe, one shoe for all occasions. I have not tried to use this on the beach yet so I can't say much about its designed water use capabilities. The outsole has good grip it is stable flat to stand on. The tooth design further provides grip on uneven surfaces and also reduces friction on walks. The rubber toe also serves good protection as a work shoe, it works great on bumps but don't expect it to work like a steel toe safety shoe. The shoe laces are also a different type of lace, silky smooth but when tied they never ever come loose. The rubber shoe In a nutshell, when it comes to functionality and usability this shoe is the best, I will not regret buying more of this shoe in the future assuming if it breaks down. Given the shoe performance I doubt this will wear or break early. Maybe I will just buy more colors of this shoe. [Altama: if you are reading this, make the Olive drab version with a green sole the black sole does not look good. That will make me buy more, I am now eyeing on the gray and coyote. And the olive if you fix it. I love olive colored sneakers] For the sizing, go with manufacturer recommendation, go one size up for half size. One thing to complain about the shoe for people interested. Ultron PU contoured insole indeed does not absorb water, where I can see my sweat forming in beeds on top of it. The sole is also very very comfortable and soft to use. However I have to say that the sole is so grippy that I feel pain on my foot sole making it painful to walk. The feeling is like walking then you skin grips on the sole while your foot forward momentum shears your meat off your skin as the two opposite forces pulls against each other. I get this feeling as I wear thin nylon black socks all the time. (have not tried using barefoot and thick cotton socks yet. I assume barefoot will make it worse, cotton socks may fix the problem). Solution: I changed the rubber PU sole to other after market shoe sole and it did the magic for me. I may revert to the original sole when I will need it for wet conditions. For short walks the rubber sole will do fine. But for long walks the rubber sole simply won't do for me.
