A must have
This is a must have if you're setting up MICR printing. I tried to avoid buying one, but had to bite the bullet and purchase it. I do not regret it.

Kept my software implementation on schedule
We were having difficulty getting the MICR data setup correctly for check printing in a new software package. Consultant recommended this product and it saved us back and forth time with the banks to review check setup.

All the right measurements.
The plastic piece has all the parts I need for verifying the layout of US and Canadian check MICR. The plastic overlay is affixed to a heavy posterboard stock in such a way that the checks can only slide down to the point they are mounted - that lines up the bottom edge. I would have preferred not to have the back on it at all and had it more like a T-Square where the checks could sit open-backed on a ledge. It'd be quicker and you wouldn't have to fight, albeit slightly, to get the checks all the down to the bottom of the pinch point between the backer and the plastic.Still, it does it's job. It'd be almost as useful without the backer at all - just aligning the bottom and right sides by hand.

Essential tool for working on check formatting.
This has saved me a boatload of time when I work on updates to a customer's check layout.

Very accurate if a bit heavy on the wallet
If you need to make sure the checks you're printing will meet the standards of your bank then this the tool you need. It's pricey for just a piece of plastic but nothing else can do it and this template is very accurate and the markings are clear. The best template out there and the price is in line with the others. It's just seems crazy to spend so much on a piece of plastic.

Great Check (and IRD) measurement tool
The design with the flexible transparent sheet glued (at the bottom) to a sturdy card works remarkably well: with rulers it is hard to keep the check in one place, here the check is held tight. The included instructions are great, who knew you could have 14 different features on one ruler ?I was a bit surprised that the all measurements were in "decimal" notation (e.g. 3.75") mainly because some third party documentation I have for MICR uses fractional notation (3 3/4) but it makes sense since the ANSI documentation uses decimal notation. This helped us a lot with our IRD Check printing product.

Finally!
Excellent product, delivered as promised. We spent nearly 2 months trying to get the proper alignment of the MICR line with our Canadian bank. They would request a batch of 10 checks, then tell us to adjust a particular item, then reject the checks asking us to adjust something else. Finally we purchased the MICR guage and we have the alignment correct! Wish we had known about this gauge ahead of time. Could have save weeks of waiting.

Cut down on cycle times with the bank - HELPFUL!
This really helped speed up the process of getting our checks approved by our bank. It cut down on the number of cycles of sending check copies (FedEx) to the bank because we could validate the positions of the print on the check stock before we sent it to Wells Fargo for validation. It was great to be able to just slide the check under the film and know we had it right. Great tool!
