Works well in some situations.
It is a very basic device for drilling vertical holes . Can't beat the price. It exactly fulfilled the purpose for which is was bought. A little difficult holding the devices steady while drilling. Highly recommend using clamps to hold it if you can. The drill bits are a nice addition that is included.

Read description.
Although easy to use, it is only good for wood up to 1" thick.

Terrible drill bits
This is a really neat, simple, and cheap product. Unfortunately it's ruined by the awful drill bits it came with. The smallest one is too big for the small hole, so I had to spend some time drilling out the hole with that bit. The two larger ones are too small for the two holes, so they wobble in the hole. All 3 bits aren't perfectly straight, so if you use the included fence to try to line up, it's impossible to keep the jog in the right place because the drill bit causes it to move. Even when I clamped it down, the drill bit wobble was enough to cause the plastic to flex. I could have drilled more accurate holes with a pencil line.

Good Jig with Pros & Cons
Preface: While I ended up returning this product because it did not fit my specific needs, it did still have some pros in comparison to the Milescraft 1319 Jointmate jig that I did purchase in its place.PRO: This jig has a longer fence which makes it easier to clamp into place. It also has a ruler on the side of the jig to allow for quicker adjustment of the fence.CONS: The fence adjustment screws are not as easy to adjust as the knobs on the Milescraft. The Milescraft has a center line guide instead of a ruler on the side of this jig, which I prefer.Biggest Difference: This jig has a 6mm bushing where as the Milescraft has a 1/4", which is more common to my projects.

Great for the money...should last through many dowel holes....
I am only giving this five stars because it is a great tool for the money. They make tools that are well over $200 that will do the job with more precision, but for me this was the perfect solution. It is actually well made for a piece of plastic (although the holes are steel lined)!I built a tall jewelry box with about 15 drawers in it about 20 years ago but never mounted the top to it. Not sure why, but I didn't. It just sat on there!Using this tool I was able to drill dowel holes in the top and base and finally mount that top. Yeah, I might have overdone it with 12 dowels, but now I can lift the 5' tall box by the top!Don't forget to get dowel center points to ensure you can line up your holes. Impossible to do without them.

Melted after a days use on hardwood but appears suitable for lighter applications
I think this jig would have worked fine for softwood but I used it on hardwood boards. Because it was harder to drill into I had to screw on a frame to hold it in place which worked until the drill started to blunt and all the extra heat melted the enclosure making it pretty much useless within 24h of arriving.Still gave 4 stars as I think it would have been fine for light usage on softer wood.
