Everything you could want to know about all avenues of password research and attacks, covering multiple tools, techniques and references. Everything is covered from basic through to advanced and lateral approaches/mindsets to attacking passwords. Invaluable resource that pentesters and related fields literally shouldn't be without. Also check out the author's 'Operator Handbook'.

Great for hashcat and JtR command lines

This is not a how to guide, it is a reference guide for different cracking software. It is great for what it is. Very small and can fit in any bag that would would bring along to a job or work center.

Books great to learn about this area. I'm very conscious of being hacked and arm myself by learning this stuff. Plus fun interesting and fun. I don't think it was a coincidence that after downloading stuff from the links provided in this book my windows 10 pro system became infected with many very high risk backdoors, trojans, rootkits etc. (old motherboard and bios etc) so I would suggest using a VM or separate isolated 'disposable' pc for anything like this. I only wanted to see how secure my system setup was! Malwarebytes and window defender missed most of these infections or crashed while looking. Sysinternals tools was great to see what was going on. Thank god for my HD clone backup. UPDATE: I now, after some investigation, found that Windows Defender Full deep scan sees kali iso as having many threats so be aware of this. ALSO: its possible in mounting my windows drive to a kali USB booted PC I may have opened doors to my problems I would advise to not do this. So just act carefully with all this.

There are no other books like this one. Not everything in there is correct and works. For example it might say to extract 1MB of data starting at a certain byte offset in the file and actually you need 4MB instead. But for the most part this is a fantastic repository of information.

It keeps me awake at night, which last happened with Hacking Exposed v1. A timely masterpiece on an incredible tool, and a lean set of operational instructions to match. This thing is Karate in a bottle.

Need to some not in depth study of coding before testing the cracking exercises.

The product is more a printed wiki, than an actual book. Can be useful for try / experiment, but with this editorial approach is better to just go online, I think that when people acquire a book, even a technical one on hacking they have different thing in mind

The best book on password cracking and should be a reference for anyone involved in collecting and cracking passwords. What I liked most about this book is that 20% of the book is dedicated to various (and current) ways of collecting hashes from various types of targets such as common operating systems to specific applications. Hash collection is a huge part and is always changing and its nice to have some many tactics in one book. Syntax and tool usage is covered along with reference reading for both the tools and the hash collection techniques. Worth the price of the book by itself Other parts of the book that i liked were the historical password analysis and the 10 commandments of password cracking. The book does a great job of explaining password cracking core concepts so even if your new to to this you can quickly pickup and understand the trade offs when designing rules and masks. The book is also a good reference for cheat sheets for both Hashcat and JTR as well as for cracking speed based on hash type. Bottom line if you only read one source on password cracking this book should be it.

This is a good book if you are just starting out with hashcat. It is also a good resource if you don't use hashcat very often..
