Bulova Dalton Chiming Pendulum Table Clock - Walnut Finish - Gold-Tone Accents

We bought this Bulova clock for its nostalgic style and the Big Ben hourly chime. As opposed to the much more expensive plastic imitations, this Bulova clock is made from real wood -- and it sounds like wood. It is a beautiful and expertly finished wooden piece that fits perfectly our 19th and 20th century living room furniture. The clock-work is obviously modern, but so far -- after about a month -- it has been very accurate. A welcome modern touch is the option of switching off the bongs from 11 o'clock at night to 5 o'clock in the morning.

It's a little hard to set it. You put the batteries in. You set the time. Then you tap the number of hours to get the hour chime to work right. Follow the instructions. The sound is so pretty. To start it, start the pendulum swinging. Be careful not to have jerks moving the clock.

The tone of the chime is really pleasing and sounds like it is coming from a big clock. The volume control is perfect, and we appreciate the automatic night-off feature. Very glad I purchased this clock.

Beautiful clock! Small, lovely clock face, and I love the pendulum. I’m also enjoying the chimes at low volume. Took off a star because the instructions for setting up the time and the chimes are really confusing and unclear. For example, there’s a big warning not to turn the hands backwards, followed by instructions to turn them counter-clockwise, and syncing the chimes to the clock was so hard to figure out. It seems to be working now, but it was a hassle for such an expensive clock.

Goldilocks size clock with very nice melodic tone and pitch of chimes. I use the Ave Maria one which is uniquely different from the usual Westminster or Whittington choices. This was an anniversary gift from me to me. Bulova did not disappoint. It sits on a shelf in my smaller hobby/craft room. It could be overlooked in a larger space, still it will be ideal in a study, library or on a guest room nightstand as well. This clock is not ornate, but has classic lines, and the brass pendulum and trim strike a pleasing balance against the wood body. Happy with my purchase.

It is nice clock and I have not any bad remarks on it. It looks great and is very precise and during the last 1/2 month, when I got it, I have not noticed any delays or rushing. A little thing that annoys me, as a pedantic person, that the hours chimed at the end of the first minute, after the "12" mark. But it is only my personal problem. Regarding chime - in my opinion it is a nice melody resembling Westminster's or Westminster's motive. Also, please use tape measure and measuring space for the best understanding of the clock size – in reality it is much more miniature as you can imagine from web photo. In any case I can recommend it as good clock. By the way, in my version I can easy switch off melody by the switch in the clock (not necessary to remove battery).

As an English lady living in the USA, I was surprised to hear the sound of Westminster chimes when I was visiting someone one day. Their clock was a magnificent long grandfather clock ... the sound reminded me so much of my childhood so I was determined to find a smaller mantle clock to keep my memories fresh ... and this clock was ideal. It looks really nice in my living room, and chimes beautifully on the hour. I am delighted with it. A very nice purchase at a very reasonable price.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Absolutely love this clock! The sound is simply amazing. I went by other reviews and they were spot-on. What a clear and beautiful chime. The clock itself is very handsome on the mantle. I have always wanted a grandfather clock, but until then, this will do very nicely. Please do read the directions - there is a specific way to wind and care for the clock. (Also, I had no idea there was a rubber band of sorts to keep the pendulum from moving during shipping - makes complete sense, but I was clueless as to why it didn't work right away.) Would highly recommend it.REVIEW AS OF JULY 2021: 'Loved' this clock... The clock stopped working - the pendulum seems to work fine; the chime works, but the clock has stopped keeping time. I replaced the batteries first. Followed instructions again for setting time. It no longer works. Anyone else with these issues and/or a possible solution, I would love to know. Will try to contact the manufacturer - otherwise there is no recourse available. Received this in February 2021 and it has stopped working July 2021.
