Great Item Still and update
Very easy to read, set, reset (change batteries), and presents pretty accurate temperatures. Easy to mount, looks nice, handy in our RV (and the 2nd unit in our bedroom, to add to the others we have in our house). I will be setting the remote outside in the shade, in a freezer type zip-lock baggie, and try not to forget it (I have a set of reminders (highly recommended) from Camping World that I place on my steering wheel, called 'RV Minders', which are great). I wish Amazon carried these. It functions well and I have experience with several LaCrosse units in my house (and other types); Atomic clocks, Sky Scan and Oregon Scientific. Nothing new here. Most people forget how to program and reset but I do this 1-2 times a year for all (6) of my remote units. Also, mixed, old, or cold batteries affect these negatively. I do not recommend Lithium batteries (like Energizer) or rechargables, for any units like this. I recommend Costco Kirkland batteries. This unit works very well despite bad reviews! Just read the instructions and understand them and get some experience. Expect any device like this to give you 'an idea' of the temperatures, but do not look for ACCURACY unless you spend hundreds or thousands of dollars. Even AccuWeather, or, The Weather Channel, is not exact, and all of the weather channels and gadgets can vary quite a bit, especially since their sensors are located in different places (can be miles apart) i.e. North Hollywood, CA, temps. can be sensed from Burbank, Van Nuys, L.A. or even hot Woodland Hills. Most of the bad reviewers have poor expectations or lack experience in using these devices. One does not get 'accurate' with 'inexpensive', and, you do not hire technicians to adjust your settings or set these up for you. 'So what' if it is off 3 degrees, if it is around 20 it is cold, if around 90 it is hot? If you are around 70-80 it is going to be comfortable. The temperature, and barometric pressure, can vary a lot in just 100 yards, or in sun, or shade!! A major internet weather station takes our temperature reading from the nearest airport, 20 miles away in a valley, which varies a lot from our temperature near the mountains, locally. Expect an 'idea' of the temperature, not 'accuracy', and these will work fine. And, save the instructions for resets when you change batteries (change the remote first). Protect the remote from rain, wind, sprinklers, and damage. I bought a second unit in July 2013 and it works great! I made changes above. Both units have easy-to-access batteries; no small screws - thumb slides or latches, which are quick and easy. Some other units have small screws to remove. I recommend freezer zip-lock bags to protect them.

Why I gave the La Crosse Digital Thermometer a 1 Star and hope to end up changing it to a 5 Star
Right now I am giving this a 1 star. I purchased the digital thermometer and two senors. New Duracell alkaline batteries were used. All three units synced perfectly and the temperature readings were big and bold. Exactly what I wanted to measure the temperatures in the garage, attic and the outdoors. I was very happy. Two weeks into the installation, the screen on the temperature reader went dark. I could sill see the sensor readings on the screen but they were very faint. I emailed La Crosse Tech and asked how long batteries were to last. I was told from 12 to 18 months. I replaced all the batteries in the three units with new Energizer alkaline batteries.. Once again all three synced and worked perfectly. I re-installed the sensors in their spot and everything looked good. I was happy once more. A week in to the re-installation, the temperature reader stopped giving the temperature readings of the sensors. Where the sensor readings were on the reader were now black bars. I watch for about three days and the sensors never connected back to the thermometer reader. About three days into watching the reader to see if the sensors eventually connected, an "RX" appeared on the screen of the reader. I looked up what "RX" meant. It meant that the batteries in the sensors were low. I was discouraged. Not in a million years was I going to climb into the attic to get one of the sensors, buy new batteries for the three units and re-install every couple weeks. I called La Crosse and told them what was happening. I was giving a Service Ticket number to have all three units sent back to the company to see what was wrong. I just got back from the Post Office where I mailed back the units to La Crosse at a cost of $4.00. If and when I get the temperate reader and two sensors back and they work as they should, I will be excited. And I will log back into Amazon and change my 1 Star rating to 5 Star. ------------------------------------------ 12/01/13 I received the temperature reader and two sensors back from La Crosse on 11/27/13. In the package was a note stating that the two sensors checked out to be working. The temperature reader was bad. The reader was replaced. I synced both sensors with the new reader. They synced and worked perfectly. All three are in place and working. Now to see if they last more than two weeks. -------------------------------------------- 12/22/13 The replacement reader has been working perfectly for a month. I really like this unit and so glad that it is working perfectly, exactly what I hoped for. I am changing my rating to a Five Star from the One Star that originally rated.

Needs some work before you can use it
Its a nice looking appliance and does exactly what I need. Batteries are easy to install, unlike the last weather station I had. However, the outside detector needs some serious work. There are two springs that are supposed to hold the batteries in place. Mine were so loose, the batteries fell out as I was putting the lid back on. I had to stretch the springs to get them hold the batteries. I was worried about them breaking. Manufacturing needs to look at this problem.

easy to setup.
2d one I purchased. The first we've had for several years and is still reliable and accurate.

Different use for a cheap product
I didn't buy this thermometer to monitor indoor and outdoor temperatures, I bought it as a piece of test equipment! I have a SPA that normally controls the water temperature to a preset level, 93 degrees in this case. Recently, I checked the SPA and found that the water temperature was 107 degrees!! This indicates that either the topside temperature setting controller has failed or that the underneath heater controller has failed in addition to consuming more energy than I would like to pay for. (There is a max overheat shutdown circuit so I was pretty sure that the SPA would not catch on fire.) Each of the two controller panels cost at least $300, plus a $75 service call, to replace. It was not even clear which of the two panels was at fault so I wanted to replace the right unit the first time. Moreover, the problem seems to be intermittent. Right now, everything is okay. But I don't want to go out, open the SPA, and check the temperature forever to see if the thing is malfunctioning again. As a retired Electrical Engineer, I envisioned building a temperature-monitoring circuit that would alert me if the temperature rose again. But, this would have cost some money and experimentation, and then, how does one monitor? Instead of building something, I purchased this thermometer for less than $20. I put the remote under the SPA (a dry area). Without worrying about the exact temperature, I see that the temperature is about what the SPA is set for - 93 degrees. Every now and then, I check the MAX/MIN function to see if the outside temperature has EVER been much more than this. Everything looks okay for now. The thermometer worked fine out of the box and has a nice, large, easily readable, display that I keep near my home computer. The distance between the remote and the display unit is about 30 feet.

Works mediocre - overly-difficult setup and limited range
Basically this works pretty much as advertised, but it is just okay. I own the base unit and two sensors that I use for outdoor temp and in a poly hoop house with tender plants. First, the advertised range of "up to 330 ft". While that may be true, the manufacturers instructions state that wall or glass that the signal passes through will reduce the range by half. My furthest range is a little over 100 ft and the signal passes through plastic and then into the house through a window. I can't think of any applications where I wouldn't need to pass through at least one wall or piece of glass. My effective range is more like 80 ft. Seems like that should be more clearly stated from the outset rather than buried in the instructions. When I saw the stated range of 330 ft, I thought I was well within range when really I was at the limit. Next, pairing the sensors to the base unit. What I would expect is to insert the batteries, place the sensors and start reading the remote temperatures. It doesn't happen that way. With more than one sensor you have bring everything to one spot, remove batteries from everything, wait 15 mins, press a button 20 times, insert the batteries in a specific order for each device and wait for them to sync. If this was a one-time procedure, it would not be a big deal, but my units sometimes inexplicably loose contact, or on occasion I move them apparently out of range, so I have to look up the whole process again. In short, if your use involves a single remote that passes through only one wall, you are probably okay. If it is anything more complicated, beware of the hidden limitations. **** Follow up approx 10 months after purchase ***** Even more disappointed now. One remote out of two has stopped working entirely. As I originally mentioned, the range is quite limited and the remotes frequently un-sync, which is a pain to correct. Not happy at all with this unit and plan to move on to something much more reliable.

Great indoor/outdoor thermometer
I've had this for a while and I seriously depend on it. The battery is long lasting and the set up is pretty easy. If you can find a shady place to put it, you'll get a more accurate reading. I haven't. Not many options so later in the sunny day it will read 105. There's nothing wrong with the thermometer, trust me. It will tell you indoor temp, outdoor temp, time or date. Good quality and useful item. ps. Battery operated.

wireless thermometer
This wireless thermometer works extremely well and is easy to set up - but you absolutely must follow the directions exactly. Range is excellent - but just make sure that some large object such as a metal shed or a large oak tree is not in line-of-sight between any of the transmitters and the receiver. I am using 3 of these temp sensors with the 915 MHz receiver. One sensor came with the receiver, and I just purchased two more, since the receiver can display up to three different temperatures from three sensors. However be advised that if you carry one or more of these sensors out of range and the receiver loses track of it, you absolutely must take the batteries out of all three sensors and out of the receiver and re-initialize all of them. This is not a difficult step, since I did it several times while playing around with the sensors to see how much range they had - which resulted in the receiver losing track of one of them. When you first see the instruction booklet that comes with the receiver, it looks daunting, but not to worry, since only a tiny part of it is in English, with all the rest in other languages. Once all the temp sensors are initialized, then it takes only a few seconds to set the clock. I read in other reviews that some buyers had problems getting their receiver to respond to some sensors, but that is because the buyers failed to properly re-initialize their units. Also be advised that if you buy a display unit that receives transmissions at 915 MHz, then you absolutely must buy sensors that also transmit at 915 MHz. Several of the sensors that are sold by Amazon look alike, but not all of them use 915 MHz, so carefully read the tech specs to make sure that both the transmitter and the receiver operate at 915 MHz.
