Why do my marker "bleed" when i use them with verafine black onyx ink?

If your markers bleed outside the stamped line, try leaving a tiny space between the stamped image and where you color as alcohol markers do spread a little no matter what. If your versafine ink is blending try heat setting it first. Or try memento black ink, a great ink for alcohol markers. also paper plays a big role in alcohol coloring. Try a copic safe paper like Neenah in 80lb.

Would you say this set has a nice balance of warm and cool colors? I'm looking for something that I would be able to make backgrounds with.

I have found I can color most things with this set, a good variety. It does have a lot of gray markers. Which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you like to color.

Does each set of markers come with a swatch card to record all the colors?

No - but you can easily make one yourself. I made a ‘reference guide’ in the front of my sketchbook to get a quick overview of all the marker colors. The cap colors are fairly true to the color value as well.
